Looking for an AGP card with HDMI

Post by CA_Steve » Fri Dec 16, 2011 2:28 pm

I'm thinking about repurposing an old PC for light HTPC use (web browsing, Hulu, possible MKV etc.. video files, no gaming) while spending the least $'s possible. It has an Athlon x2 2800+ CPU and an AGP video card slot. Seems like the latest gen GPU you can get in AGP is the HD4650/70 with the HD4650 easily meeting my needs.

Anyone seen any bargain priced 4650's with AGP and HDMI out? Newegg has a couple of HIS cards, ranging from $75 to $100. The $75 card looks like a screamer.

Why not use a DVI to HDMI adapter or do you need audio sent to the TV as well?

Short term, video only to the TV works. Longer term, would like to route HDMI through the receiver to the TV and pick up audio as well.

HIS IceQ Radeon HD 4670 has HDMI and quiet cooler but it's far from cheap. For the price of it your could buy GTS 450 or HD 6770 it might be time scrap you AGP motherboard for PCI-Ex.

Yeah, sorta why I'm ignoring NewEgg and the HIS cards - too much money to throw into this old rig. I'll continue to cruise eBay for a used card that suits.

I was thinking of doing the same with an old unused box, but found no agp's around with hdmi.

what about pci? (or is that too slow? )
it looks like there are some decent ones under $50 with hdmi. (and even in low profile and fanless :D)

Hmm, I wonder what the video detect sequence is in bios.....can you leave agp open and have a PCI video card?
