Seasonic X-400 enough for this system?

Post by Miki » Tue Feb 28, 2012 6:31 am

Hi all,

I am about to replace my old Enermax Modu82+ 525W ATX PSU for Seasonix X-400 fanless PSU and now I am wondering if it will be enough for this system below:

Mobo: Asus P5Q3 Deluxe/Wifi-AP ATX
Mem: Kingston 8Gt (2x4096MB) 1066MHz
CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E8400 3.00GHz with passive Zalman CPU cooler
GPU: Asus ATI Radeon HD3800 with passive cooling
HDD: OCZ 60Gb SDD + Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB
LG GGW-H20LRB Super Multi Blu-ray Writer
+ 2x quiet Noctuas case coolers

Any other recommendations on the PSU?

NOTE: I will not game on this system! It is only for HTPC purposes and NAS.

Very much so. The Seasonix X-400 could theoretically power two such systems. :)

It sure would seem like that would be more than enough. See:

+1+1, that power supply is more than adequate for that system. Since you say you won't be gaming on it, I'd guess that the computer would spend most of its time sucking up ~90w. Full load couldn't make that system break ~275w.

I have an X-400 powering my HTPC and moderate gaming rig of a 2500K, Radeon 7750, SSD, HDD, and BR without a hiccup. Yours will be fine too, as long as your case has adequate airflow, and probably even without that given its duties.

Thanks all for the replies, greatly appreciated :D

Scrooge: I have the system running in OrigenAE S16V case, I think the airflow will be sufficient :)

Hmm started to think... is there anything where I could improve this system? I want to keep it as cool as possible and be very low on power consumption.

Is it any use moving to PicoPSU with this? Getting rid of this mobo and buying a Intel DH67CF itx mobo for example and pairing it up with a 2100T or 2500K?

for sure I'll buy a Western Digital Caviar Green 2Tb for this, maybe even two of them and I'm not sure how all these components would consume electricity?
