Noise problem : Need Help.
Hello,
I have a little problem with my computer for almost one month, I heard an unusual noise, like a rolling metal.
I did some testing to find where the noise comes from :
I disconnected all my hard drives except my SSD: nothing.
I changed my graphics card (GTX460 to GTX580): nothing.
I changed the fans front and back of my computer (I even unplugged): nothing.
I changed and even removed the fan cooler: nothing.
I tidy the cables to be sure that this does not come from a vibration : nothing.
Edit : I also changed the PSU because my Enermax topped working, so i bought an Seasonic X-Series : nothing.
What to do? This noise is very disturbing, I heard before a light breeze from my computer, that breath was very discreet, now I have a breath and a horrible noise.
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
How about the PSU fan ? It seems to be the only moving part you haven't played with...

Re: Noise problem : Need Help.
It has to be one of your fans: CPU, PSU, case or Video card (I guess it could be a hard drive... but I doubt it).
You need to remove or replace them one at a time to find out which one is the culprit.

I forgot to mention it, but i also changed the PSU, i have edited my post. How about the PSU fan ? It seems to be the only moving part you haven't played with...
I tought the problem was from my PSU, but nothing has changed when i have installed the new one.
The PSU is brand new, and i had this problem with the Enermax and Seanonic. It has to be one of your fans: CPU, PSU, case or Video card (I guess it could be a hard drive... but I doubt it).

I will do it again tonight and keep this post up to date.
Thank you.
Re: Noise problem : Need Help.
Do you have a CD/DVD in the CD/DVD player ?
Re: Noise problem : Need Help.
There you go. That sounds like a likely suspect.frenchie wrote:Do you have a CD/DVD in the CD/DVD player ?
Re: Noise problem : Need Help.
No nothing, btw the cd/dvd player was off because i did not have a sata cable.
I will do all these test tomorrow night, im really tired of this noise...
Can this sound come from the heatskin ? not from the heatskin fan bur the heatskin itself.

I don't think so...justice99 wrote:Can this sound come from the heatskin ? not from the heatskin fan bur the heatskin itself.
Excuse my dumb question, but when you say "disconnected", you mean that you unplugged the power cable from the device, not the data cable, right ? I believe some devices can spin up even without a data connection (just the power cable).
Re: Noise problem : Need Help.
Could a screw be in the floor of the case? Is the power to the cd unplugged?
Re: Noise problem : Need Help.
I have a doubt, that why i want to try it again, should i take off the HDD or just unplug the power and sata cable ?
Re: Noise problem : Need Help.
Just the power cable will do.
Re: Noise problem : Need Help.
You were right about the HDD.It has to be one of your fans: CPU, PSU, case or Video card (I guess it could be a hard drive... but I doubt it).
I have one SSD and 3 x WD20EARS, and one of them is making this crazy noise, my first test was wrong, i decided to test each HDD one by one and to put the case at the right place, it took me a hour but now i have found the problem
Im gonna backup this HDD and change it.
Thank you very much frenchie ( merci ) , ces and gidk.
It's not the first HDD which is making this noise, and i cant RMA them because they are not faulty, they are working great and dont have any bad sectos.
I will probably buy another HDD brand, cause 2 noisy hdd over 5...
Do you know which 2TB shoul i buy ?
Thanks again.
