Ivy Bridge intro pushed out to June
According to Sean Maloney, EVP Intel.
Re: Ivy Bridge intro pushed out to June
From what I understand, the delay is just for the mobile chips to help them work off some excess inventory and it isn't supposed to affect the timing of the desktop chips.

That was last week's rumor. This is this week's rumor.ces wrote:From what I understand, the delay is just for the mobile chips to help them work off some excess inventory and it isn't supposed to affect the timing of the desktop chips.
Re: Ivy Bridge intro pushed out to June
I had planned on an IVB/Kepler notebook or ultrabook this spring. Shoot me now.

Intel "Ivy Bridge": Everyone Please Calm Down
I reached out to Intel this morning and received the same feedback. Jon Carvill, at Intel Media Relations, reiterated via email that the reports of an eight week delay were inaccurate and that the schedule had only been impacted a few weeks.
Re: Ivy Bridge intro pushed out to June
Sweclockers states that boards based on Z77, Z75, H77 and B75 chipsets will come out April 8th.
Quad core CPUs have been pushed back to April 29th.

Re: Ivy Bridge intro pushed out to June
Here's some more rumors from X-Bit Labs. The mobile cpu release was a little unclear - so I'll take a stab at it
i7 desktop April 29
i5/i7 mobile quad and i5 desktop June 3
mobile dual summer
desktop i3 fall
So, the "tout" parts at the end of April, and the parts most of us want to use in June. Low end laptop parts this summer - in time for fall school purchases, and htpc/low end desktop parts in the fall.

Re: Ivy Bridge intro pushed out to June
Grrr. This is irritating. I'm waiting for an Ivy Bridge MacBook Pro, and I want to refresh my HTPCs (IVB is rumoured to correct the 23.976fps bug, and if it does they'll go from near-perfect to perfect). Ah well, a little bit of patience won't kill me. I just hope they turn up cool, working and late rather than hot, broken and late.
Re: Ivy Bridge intro pushed out to June
Been waiting for Ivy Bridge for an HTPC but decided on AMD Llano mainy because they seem better at 24p. And now this. Good for AMD, perhaps good for us all in the long run.
Re: Ivy Bridge intro pushed out to June
I've been planning for an i5 Ivy Bridge desktop build in August. I like to wait 3 months after intro to let the driver and bios release/fix frenzy slow down. Might have to wait another month
Re: Ivy Bridge intro pushed out to June
Which Llano did you go for? What's the power consumption like? I have a passing interest in the A4 but I'm struggling to find any sensible power figures in an HTPC use-case. Most A4 reviews I've found pair it with a top-end graphics card consuming LOL watts. Which is missing the point somewhat. And the bulk of Llano reviews are A6 and A8, which aren't that interesting to me. IVB should drop in to my existing HTPCs, hopefully cheaper.Vicotnik wrote:Been waiting for Ivy Bridge for an HTPC but decided on AMD Llano mainy because they seem better at 24p. And now this. Re: Ivy Bridge intro pushed out to June
For an HTPC the Llano really is perfect for me. I am running an a6-3500 (3 core with turbo) in a Silverstone ML03B case. Using the box HSF that comes with a PII X6 I am able to passively cool the CPU with 2 of the 4 80mm side fans spots populated. I am using a asus fm1-pro m-atx board that has good 3pin fan modulation capabilities. With this I can ramp the case fans up with CPU temp. They RARELY go over 900 rpm and temps are normally below 40c. Total system draw is around 34 watts idle, closer to 55 during normal usage and finally around 78 watts with prime running. This is with the CPU, 2 80mm system fans, a seasonic 300w 80+ PSU, Blu-Ray 5.25 and a single 1.5tb samsung eco drive. The only setting tweaked is I have the UEFI set to powersaving mode. I figure why not have the little extra horse in the CPU and GPU over the A4 if I can still manage this.

A6-3500. I will build pretty much a copy of the system in this thread - Pretty cool completely passive <20w mini pcnutball wrote:Which Llano did you go for? What's the power consumption like? Hoping for a little bit better idle numbers, as I will aim for underclocking rather than overclocking.

Another day, another rumor.

I have the patience of a ferret on coke. Release now dammit!

Anand has published a Ivy Bridge preview.

This week's rumor - what parts when and for what $.
Re: Ivy Bridge intro pushed out to June
So no Pentiums or Celerons in this batch?
Re: Ivy Bridge intro pushed out to June
The cheap models will probably released several months after the initial batch. Possibly many months...
Re: Ivy Bridge intro pushed out to June
My guess is the fall for the low end stuff.
Re: Ivy Bridge intro pushed out to June
Q3 for the i3s, from what I've seen in the last day or two. Motherboards due on the 8th still, just to be reviewed with SNB chips.CA_Steve wrote:My guess is the fall for the low end stuff.

What is sort of interesting is the 3770S. It is 3.1GHz with 3.9GHz on turbo. 4 cores with with Hyperthreading, HD4000 graphics and a TDP of 65 watts. It costs $38 less than the overclockable 77 watt 3770K (which runs 3.5GHz with 3.9GHz on turbo using 4 cores with with Hyperthreading).ces wrote:Here is the latest:

What's not to like about the 3770S?
Re: Ivy Bridge intro - April 29, 2012
It's the same chart I posted 2 days ago. Gonna have to work on your rumor mongoring skills.ces wrote:Here is the latest:

The 3570(K) will probably be the sweet spot for desktop use...unless you have apps that'll make use of hyperthreading and it's worth the extra $100. Same argument carried over from the 2500K/2600K.
Re: Ivy Bridge intro - April 29, 2012
I wonder if it might be more complicated than that. Sometimes I see delays when I have a lot of tabs in my browser open. Multithreading won't hurt that.... and I wonder if Multithreading might help. There may be other subtle things that it may help. What do you think?CA_Steve wrote:unless you have apps that'll make use of hyperthreading
Re: Ivy Bridge intro pushed out to June
Either an application makes use of HTT or not. Don't think you need HTT for browser speed. Video encoding, sure.
