Enermax T.B.Silence UCTB12 vs Scythe Slipstream 800

Post by Anusha » Tue May 01, 2012 8:11 pm

Hi,

Just wondering if upgrading my case fans from T.B. Silence to Slipstreams (both 120mm and will be run at around 650RPM mark) will give me better airflow at the same noise. I haven't been able to find any such comparison. If someone has experience with both of these fans, please care to share.

Thanks.

People seem to have some mixed feelings about those Enermax fans. Undervolt an SPCR Nexus reference fan to 7 volts and I would expect you would get more CFM and less Db than the Enermax fan.

Also you have to be wary about mounting them as intake fans on steel cases. The steel mucks up the alignment of the magnetically balanced fan blades.

Get an SPCR Nexus reference fan and experiment with it.

thank you for the reply.

right now i have two on mounted on the front hard drive bay (no hard drives installed btw), which use plastic brackets (i wonder if this is enough to prevent the adverse effects).

i was wondering whether to replace all the 4 fans (2x Enermax T.B.Silence and 2x Scythe KAMA FLOW2) with something better.

btw, from where do i get the Nexus fans? i live in Japan.

try
http://www.nexustek.nl/contact_japan.htm

Though it looks like they may not carry the fans. There is still probably someone in Japan or outside Japan who sells these fans into Japan. Try contacting [email protected]

If that doesn't work, maybe you can get someone here to buy one for you and ship it to you.

What is your assessment of the tests?

yesterday i bought a Scythe 6-channel fan controller. i tested by turning all the fans off except the ones on the video cards and the power supply. from where i sit, that is about 1m from the case to my ears, i cannot distinguish the difference between UCTB12s turned OFF and running at max speed. meaning, they are not adding anything to the fan noise. thus i will be keeping them as they are. no replacement required. all they do is supply cool air directly to the rad from the front. nothing blocking their path as well.
