Many motherboards only allow PWM control of CPU fans. So fans which can get down to idle speeds of around 300/400 rpm such as the Scythe Slip Stream SY1225SL12LM-P PWM or Noctua NF-P12 PWM may be worth considering.

We need to know the board maker/model because some boards do support both 3 pin and 4 pin fans for the CPU fan. By 3 pin I mean voltage control of the fan.

I like my scythe kama flex 120mm pwm. It'll run down to about 300rpm or so up to 1600rpm and has an sony fluid dynamic bearing with basically unlimited lifespan.

Noctua NF-S12B FLX

This is the fan i bought and even lowered down it is noisy!

Anyone able to recommend a 'silent' 120mm? 3 pin is fine

Use the Noctua connector that slows done the fan, but replace the Noctua fan with the reference 120mm Nexus fan used by SPCR.

Yea, even using the speed reducers it is noisey. 120mm Nexus fan needs a bit of research then. Thanks

Take a look here:

and

And in any SPCR heat sink review.
