Antec Isk-110

Post by bandit99 » Sat Jul 28, 2012 8:59 am

Intel 2120t
Asus P8H77-I
Samsung MV-3V4G3D/US
Samsung 820 256gb
Scythe Kozuti
Antec Isk-110

Here's my first mini itx build. To me it sounds silent. I can hear my refrigerator and air conditioning system running but not the pc. Running Windows 8 release preview and seems pretty zippy but cannot install the Asus or Samsung monitoring software. My HP printer drivers wont install either.
The antec case has two usb 2.0 cables for the front ports but the mb only has one usb 2.0 header. Might try a usb 3.0 header to usb 2.0 adapter so that there will not be two dead usb ports on the fron of the case. I almost wish that I had purchased the Antec Isk 300-150. It is slightly larger with an power supply that does not require a external brick, slim optical, and Usb 3.0 front port.

I'm not sure if its worth the effort to zip tire all the cables to make it look cleaner for pc I hope not to take apart for a while.

Extra usb 2.0 cable tucked in the space for addintional drive.

I need to clean up my desk and dress the wires.

Think temps would be okay with no fan?

I don't have enough experience to say if it would be safe to run with out a fan. With the scythe fan the system is silent to my ear when just browsing the web. The fan does ramp up to an audible level after watching a netflix movie for a while but it is not intrusive.

nice build, you don't see many tiny cases in the gallery.

a question regarding the case:
the spcr review of the isk100 pointed out that there were quality issues, such as the misaligned motherboard and screws that were too long. did you encounter any problems when installing components?

as for the isk300 the major downside is the psu, efficiency is very poor and it would take plenty of work to make the extra fan quiet.
it's nice to see though than antec slipped in usb3 ports somewhere along the line.

The four mounting points for the motherboard lined up just fine. The IO shield fit with no problems. The side panels are secured with two screws each plus some very tiny plastic tabs. The side panels don't inspire much confidence. After unscrewing the two screws you have to press the panel away from the case to remove it. It almost feels like something is going to break during the removal process. It is probably fine but it just makes me nervous. The case would be perfect if it had usb 3.0 ports and no external power brick.

thanks for replying, i'm glad antec seem to have sorted out the initial problems.

an external brick is the cheapest way to get up to 92%(from antec website) efficiency in a low powered system. especially during extremely low power idle where even an expensive gold or platinum psu would probably be beat by the brick and pcb combo.
hopefully antec will upgrade the isk110 to usb3 just like they did with the isk300.

Very nice, clean setup. I thought about building an HTPC with the Antec Isk-110 and your example has inspired me. Great work!

Is that the stock fan that comes with the Kozuti? I.e., did you just replace the stock cooler with a stock Kozuti, and leave everything else the same? How do you configure the fan to make it inaudible?

Thanks.

Yes that is the stock kozuti fan. I never installed the intel heatsink so I can't compare the two. The asus bios has three settings on the main page. I believe they are performance, optimal, and quiet. I've got it set in the optimal setting. I believe the driver disc that came with the asus motherboard has some monitoring software for voltages and fan speed but I'm running the windows 8 release preview and the software would not install for me.

Sorry for waking an old thread, but did could you connect the ATX power cable to the Asus P8H77-I without an extension?
Some of the reviews I have read states that this is impossible if the port is located as on the Asus board.
