Silverstone introduce Air Penetrator SST-AP182

Post by lodestar » Mon Sep 17, 2012 9:50 am

The Silverstone Air Penetrator SST-AP182 180mm fan has a 500/2000 rpm speed range rather than the 700/1200 of the AP181. It also has a speed controller instead of the two position switch fitted to the AP181. Details are here http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.p ... 44&area=en.

A Silverstone rep over at OCN stated that the AP182 series will spit out more air at a given dba level than the 181 series, which means quieter fans for us :) Can't say i'm unhappy with the 181s though, they've been working pretty well. One thing i'm confused with is the bearing. Does anyone know which type of bearing the 181 series used? I remember hearing that it was a FDB, which makes the switch to 2BB seem a bit odd for a fan that is supposed to be 'quieter.'
