Megahalems orientation

Post by Matt3o » Sat Nov 17, 2012 2:38 am

I always see the Megahalems mounted vertically with airflow going from right to left (to the rear of the case). I was wondering if anyone tried to mount it horizontally.

Placing it horizontally the heatpipes would we perpendicular to the CPU cores (so potentially better cooling factor) and also heat would go naturally from bottom to top. Of course in a case that has an outtake on the top (such as the Antec p18x).

thanks

You'd create an airstream that could potentially disturb the cooling flow coming from the front intakes, resulting in potentially higher HDD and GPU temps.

But in certain cases, as you mentioned, this could pay of. Has to be tried and proofed on a case-by-case (pun intendend) basis.
