Netflix on Linux! (ish)

Post by andymcca » Thu Dec 13, 2012 10:18 pm

Perhaps everyone who cares already knows this (the news is a month old), but:

There is now a working WINE workaround for viewing Netflix on Linux.
I tried the PPA from Erich Hoover per this guide:
http://how-to.wikia.com/wiki/How_to_wat ... 9_in_Linux
It worked perfectly on an Ubuntu 12.04 system. There are WINE patches if you want to compile for another distro, and I think there are a couple of other packages floating around.

I canceled my subscription to Netflix because of the lack of Linux compatibility. I still have extremely negative feelings towards them (can you say snubbed?), so I probably won't rush to subscribe. If they did a 180 and actually gave a ####, I would probably be paying them...

Thought it was interesting that a non-VM solution has finally been crafted. Been a while!
