And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Giving my old computer to my gf

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

so far this is what I have in mind, please suggest if you know of a more quiet alternative:

1) Intel CPU 3820 (3930 is too expensive)
2) Asus P9X79 WS Motherboard (Need the firewire port for audio interface)
3) Gigabyte GTX 660ti 2GB OC (or 3GB) Video Card (for adobe premiere)
4) GSkill Ripjaws Z 1600 Ram 32GB (4x8GB) Quad
5) OCZ Vertex 4 SSD 256GB Hard Drive (or OCZ Vector)
6) Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 CPU Fan (running on Minimum fan setting)
7) Corsair AX850 Gold 80+ Power Supply
8) Corsair 550D Quiet Casing

and

9) Looking for a Quiet 3TB 7200rpm Hard drive (for my video files)

*Note: I might be able to get an old Intel SSD 80GB from my friend (free) to act as an SSD cache (if it helps)
I also have a 2TB WD Caviar Green for my documents (word/excel/etc)

Hiya.

1) Intel CPU 3820 (3930 is too expensive): For $20 more, the i7-3770K outperforms this 4 core SNB-E CPU and uses less power.

2) Asus P9X79 WS Motherboard (Need the firewire port for audio interface): Looks like Asus has stepped away from 1394 for IVB. The Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H is well rated, has two 1394 ports, and costs ~$190. Asus has better fan management and a better UEFI..you can get around the fan management by using Speedfan.

3) Gigabyte GTX 660ti 2GB OC (or 3GB) Video Card (for adobe premiere): The 660 Ti is probably overkill for Premiere, but nice for 1920x1200 gaming. 3GB doesn't add value. Take a look at the Asus and MSI cards, too.

4) GSkill Ripjaws Z 1600 Ram 32GB (4x8GB) Quad: tall heatspeaders don't do anything other than get in the way of the CPU cooler/fan. If you like G.Skill look at the Ares series.

5) OCZ Vertex 4 SSD 256GB Hard Drive (or OCZ Vector): Cheaper SSDs, but OCZ has a history of drive failures. Consider Samsung, Intel, Crucial.

6) Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 CPU Fan (running on Minimum fan setting):

7) Corsair AX850 Gold 80+ Power Supply: Overkill. Your system will draw < 300W stressed, and closer to 200-250W in use. Take a look at Seasonic x-560, Kingwin LZP-550 (or Super Flower Golden King in SEA).

8) Corsair 550D Quiet Casing: Antec Solo II, Fractal R4 and Antec P183 v3 are also nice. Pick the one with the look/features you like.
