Post by Bro » Sun Mar 17, 2013 5:16 pm

hi guys,
i have a question! yesterday i bought the case Silverstone Grandia GD08. I can use only cpu cooler with max height 138mm. The Noctua NH-C14 is very very expensive :( I want to spend less!

Summary, cpu coolermust be:
- max height 138mm
- good airflow and MAX silent!
- medium cost

thank you!

Hi, what CPU are you looking to cool?
"Best" often means highest performance, I would suggest the NH-C14 holds that title but you're after cheaper options.

I suggest Arctic Cooling Freezer 13. Has 92mm PWM fan that is good and very quiet at minimum speed. The cooler is 130mm tall and not expensive. The cooling performance will be good enough for any non-overclocked CPU, even loaded at quiet(ish) fanspeeds.

The Coolermaster Hyper TX3 (EVO) is also a good performer and 136mm tall while often being very cheap to buy. If the stock fan doesn't suit then I've found Arctic Cooling F9 / F9 PWM fans to be very good and also cheap. I built an E6600 OC'd rig with Hyper TX3 and push/pull F9 PWMs on it, worked great.

Regards, Seb

The Thermalright True Spirit 90M might be worth considering. As its names suggests it is essentially a 92mm fan version of the True Spirit 120M. Only 125mm high and reasonably priced, cheaper than buying a TX3 Evo and changing the fan. Also has backplate mounting rather than the TX3 pushpins.

Full details on the Thermalright website.

X-bits labs have a review of it here.
