Hi all,
I bought this board on the strength of reports that the green line out jack of the Realtek ALC892 audio subsystem is a combo mini-TOSlink port (e.g.
m3libra's response here - linked earlier in this very thread) but am having difficulty getting that particular 'undocumented feature' to work

I have tried three different drivers (namely: the one provided by Intel, Microsoft's generic driver and Realtek's generic driver) but with none of these does "Realtek Digital Audio" appear in the playback devices list in Windows 7's sound setup dialog.
Having updated to the latest BIOS I'm worried that, in the year or so since the S/PDIF output feature became apparent, Intel has perhaps disabled the TOSlink function of that combo socket to make the board match its published specs?
I know it's a long shot, but is anyone here currently using the TOSlink output feature of this board successfully and, if so, would you let me know what version BIOS/OS/drivers you are running? Even if you're not using TOSlink, are you able to check if you are getting a red glow from the line out jack?
At the moment I'm on BIOS v52, Windows 7 SP1, Realtek HD audio driver R2.71 (driver version 6.0.1.6873 in device manager).
TIA,
Bruce

EDIT: Found an older version of the Intel-supplied driver, dating from June 2012 (6.01.6649) but no luck. Going to try an older BIOS.
EDIT2:
SUCCESS! - rolled the BIOS back to the original production version (0038) and the digital output device has now appeared in W7 sound settings, TOSlink light is glowing and output is being picked up by my external DAC. Interesting to note that Intel's BIOS release notes make no reference to them having disabled this feature.
If nothing else I've reminded myself that I should only update BIOS whenever the newer version fixes a specific issue.

Hopefully this post might help someone else fix this problem or avoid it altogether in future.
