Hello!

Two years ago I bought the Thermalright HR-02 but I cannot find it anymore but instead there is a "Macho" version of this heat-sink. The only providers are via Amazon for a great price. Now my question is, are there better options for a low dB, low voltage fanned computer? And are the differences between the "Macho" minimalistic from the old HR-02?

Thanks in advance.

Edit:
So far I have narrowed down two choices, the HR-02 and the Noctua D14, as it comes with decent fans and I'll probably keep the 14cm one sandwiched and use the other for case exhaust.
I can't seem to find anything reviewing the HR-02's fan.

Edit 2:
I bought the HR-02 as I am familiar with it and it's wide fin spacing could allow for a simply case fan pull.

The HR02 Macho has certain small differences, i own 2 none machos and one macho =)

- Nickel Plated cooper heatpipes on the none macho, none covered pure copper on the macho
- I believe Macho has one or two less fins, but i haven't counted
- Slightly different mounting hardware, on the macho they no longer use thumb tall thumb screws for securing the heatsink to the bracket, this is good though, as it allows the TY-141 fan to be mounted even lower in case the case has a tight fit or allows to mount the asymmetrical fan both ways, good for Micro ATX setups where the GPU almost touches the HR02.

The HR02 macho has been seen as one of the best coolers for the money, but the big twin tower coolers will still perform better in temps, but more expensive and the HR02 Macho.

I also assume the HR-02 will block the first expansion slot when mounted vertically. Is this a correct assumption?

My HR-02 (original version) never blocked the top expansion slot on any of these motherboards, though it was a tight fit (about 2mm to spare):

* Asus P8Z68-V
* Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe (~20mm gap here)
* Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H
* Gigabyte P67A-UD5

Thank you!

I naively bought the HR-02 before ordering other parts since I was expecting Amazon shipping to be slower than that of Newegg.

I was eyeing these boards that seem to have similar dimensions:
GIGABYTE G1.Sniper M3 LGA 1155 Intel Z77
ASUS P8Z77-M PRO LGA 1155 Intel Z77

I hope this fits. It's all in the distance between the socket and the first slot. Hopefully this is somewhat standardized, or maybe just the same for most Gigabyte microATX boards.

I think you'll be fine. If you think it's too tight, then just wedge something non-conductive between the HR-02 and the PCI-e card to ensure they don't touch. :)

Oh, and I forgot to mention another motherboard that's definitely compatible with the HR-02 - the Asus P8H67-M EVO. Again, about 2mm to spare. :)
