Efficient 12v brick in the UK?

Post by matthelliwell » Sun Apr 13, 2014 1:16 pm

I've just ordered a 90W picopsu to replace my horribly noisy FP 1U PSU. However I'm struggling to find an efficient power adapter to go with it. As the server will be on 24/7, I do want to keep things as efficient as possible.

80w will be more than enough for my set up but all the ones I've looked at lack any efficiency rating so I can't tell if their nice ones or cheap rubbish that will self-destruct in a few days. There are a few US sites with some efficiency specs (eg ones made buy EDAC) bit not a lot in the UK.

So which bricks did people in the UK buy?

Thanks

I've tested various power bricks a while ago for my system and I got these numbers:

Seasonic 80w (SSA-0901-12) - Idle 21W, Load 48W
Meanwell 80w (GS90A12-P1M) - Idle 24W, Load 51W
FSP 84W (FSP084-DMAA1) - Idle 21W, Load 53W
Delta 90W (Got this one from a QNAP NAS) - Idle 21W, Load 49W

So I can recommend the Seasonic if you are looking for an efficient and reliable power brick. Not sure about the availabilty of this adapter in the UK though.

Thanks, that'll give me a few things to search for amid the myriad of of what's available.

Thank you, that's an interesting list.

Most PicoPSU use a 5mm/2.5mm barrel power jack. I'm unable to confirm that the power bricks in that list have such a connector.

What power adapters are compatible with PicoPSU?

The Mean Well GS90A12-P1M is available on Amazon:

...but its PDF says "ID 2.5 x OD 5.5"
