Yeah - just wanted to set up the threads for when the aftermarket cards do come out...whenever.. That said, looks like AMD still has to throw a lot of watts at the card to get it up near GTX 1080 performance. At first glance, it looks like the Vega 56 is closer to the sweet spot for the fab/architecture and a potentially nice GTX 1070 competitor. I just hope these cards suck for etherium mining so prices/availability are ok.

Not great http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/ ... 6/?page=14
but bare in mind the 56 is about the same draw as the 580, so really not all that bad for the power. Though miners may also think so.
We will see what the board partners make.

Default "Balanced" setting is totally nuts.CA_Steve wrote:Yeah - just wanted to set up the threads for when the aftermarket cards do come out...whenever.. Powersave profile drops power consumption quite a lot with only minor performance hit.

And because of overclocking aftermarket/non-reference cards aren't any more power efficient, but the opposite and usually by clear margin.
There are 1080 cards drawing that 200+W under load and doubling idle consumption.
Re: RX Vega 64 Review Compilation Thread
Undervolted Vega 56 is actually a nice card.

Re: RX Vega 64 Review Compilation Thread
Vega requires way too much power to be used in the majority of high-end builds. It can be undervolted, but even when its not undervolted, the GTX 1070 gives it a run for its money, if not the GTX 1080.
