Suspending optical drive?

Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

Suspending optical drive?

Post by Marvin » Sun Jan 19, 2003 11:50 pm

When I built my computer, I made a mistake and bought Lite-On CD-RW. It does the job well, but it is noisy as hell.

I have a Chieftec case and I started to wonder if anyone has suspended their CD/DVD-drives.

I ask this because I don't want to invent the wheel again, if somebody has a good solution for this.

The drive is slid into its place on a rails that are screwed to its sides, and I dont know ifthere is enough room to make "normal" suspension like with harddrives.

So does anyone have any suggestions?

My suggestion, Marvin, is by all means to suspend it! And then let us know what happens.

It will probably reduce most of the vibrational noises, but will not get rid of air turbulance caused by high spinning speed of CD's. :D

But if anyone has a slow drive that is quiet, this would be a perfect situation.
