HD suspension for SLK3700 or Compucase LX-6A19

Post by cmcquistion » Tue Mar 16, 2004 6:52 pm

I have built a HD suspension rig for my Compucase LX-6A19, which is a clone, basically, of Antec SLK-3700 cases. (I've actually built four of these rigs, all used inside Compucase LX-6A19 cases.)

This suspension rig can accomodate 4 hard drives, in elastic suspension and allow for really good airflow.

Here is a link to a thread with all my case mods for this case and here is a link to my original hard drive suspension article (which only supported up to two drives.)

My new design is this:

It can be mounted 90 degrees off, from the old design (if you like your drives to be sideways, hiding cables and taking up less space.) This is a picture of it in my Compucase LX-6A19, with one drive in it:

The overall dimensions have been changed to 6.75" high, 6" long, and 5.5" wide. This makes the drives fit more snugly in the unit, but they are still contacted, only by elastic, on every side.

*EDITED* with new picture of the hard drive rack, inside my case.

Is it a funny camera angle or is your contraption skewing to the right? Might want to level that out a bit.

I hadn't noticed that it had shifted a little, when I took the picture. I did get it straight, before I closed up the case, though.

According to my server logs, the server has been up for 2 days, 12 hours, and 35 minutes??? I've had 64 hits from SilentPCReview, since I posted these pics. Maybe my cable service was down for a few minutes, or there is some other weirdness going on?

Pics show up fine now (Thurs, 5:45AM PST), FWIW. :)

hey, does the rear fan exhaust? if it does, doesn't that conflict with the zalman in airflow?

Yes, the rear fan does exhaust, but it doesn't conflict. They are both running low speed and I can't detect any turbulence problems between them.

How did you make it? What materials did you use? I wish I could just buy something like that.

My first post has a link here:

This is my original article, complete with pictures, measurements and everything. I later modified the original design, to make it taller and support three drives.
