Hi everyone, I'm new here as you can see :D

I've been looking around this forum in the past week and decided to post a question of my own.

I just bought a Super Tornado 300 (rev A2), as I've read good reviews about it and I am extremely disappointed. That power supply is excessively LOUD even with minimal CPU load :x

I'm not sure what the problem is - my motherboard temperature is around 36c (I have the heat sensor right on top of the heatsink cooling the chipset) and my hard drive is at about the same temperature.

I'm thinking maybe my PC consumes more than 150W and that's why the PS gets so noisy? Although that shouldn't be the case, I've seen some people here run much more power hungry systems on a 300w PS with no problems. Here are my specs:

P4 2.8 OC'ed to 3.23
1GB of PC3200 RAM
2X Seagate 7200 HDs (80 & 160 GB)
ATI 9600XT video card
Motu 828 FireWire Audio Interface
Midex 8 USB MIDI Interface
Pioneer 16x DVD ROM
Plextor 52x burner
Antec 120mm case fan

Is that too much for a 300w PS to handle? Or is mine just defective? I've seen quite a few people here had some issues with their Seasonic power supplies. Do you think I would get better results with a 400w PS? Unfortunately I don’t have any means of measuring how much power my system draws L

Thanks in advance!

P.S. I just installed my old Enermax 550W with 2 fans and it's actually quiter than the ST300 :?: Doesn't make any sense...

Welcome to SPCR pariah333. :)

Rev.1 of the Seasonic Tornados had problems with the fan not starting and squealing as a result. With Rev.2 the fan spins up too soon and too fast even with very moderate loads. If you look around you'll see many SPCR members replaced the fan on their Rev.2's for a low noise fan at a fixed voltage (anywhere from 5-7v). Many also removed the fan grill. I'm in the process of modding mine (400W), I received a papst 4412F/2GL today, just have to test it first to see if it doesn't tick at low voltages (crossing fingers).

Do a search for 'tornado' on this forum and you'll get plenty of info.
