I'm helping a friend select parts for a $1200 complete computer with 17" LCD that eats up a lot of the budget (luckily WinXP can be had from school for cheap).
Since the motherboard will be a nForce4 Ultra (non-SLI), I have been trying to find 24-pin power supplies, but most of them are top of the line Antec, OCZ, or Enermax that can cost more than $100 for some models.
Right now, I have selected the Cooler Master RS-450 or Fortron 400W Blue Storm, but the way the other parts are adding up, I've been trying to find a cheaper 24-pin power supply and unfortunately those new Antec Smartpowers displayed at CES aren't out yet. The power supply will go in a LX-6A19 from Directron w/ orange 120mm yate-loons. The AMD64 3200+ and 6600GT fans will be stock for now to meet the budget. I will let my friend decide later on if he can tolerate them. He actually didn't even ask for a "quiet" PC, but I figure it is better to get quiet parts as budget allows.
At Newegg, I saw this Xclio 450W: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-189-003&depa=0
The price is right and very nice specs on paper, but of course, I am suspicious of the brand. Never heard of Xclio or the parent company Meridian Tech before. Anyone ever use a Xclio before? |

| Its made by CWT the same company that makes the antec neopower and phantom so it should be a good psu. I have an older model meridian psu which was identical to the previous line of antec psu's and it was very good but quite loud. |

There are numerous 20 to 24 pin adapters available too for not that much... _________________

Antec OEM?
I guess the xclio might be worth the gamble since the Cooler Master and Fortron I was looking at only have 1-year warranty anyway.
Thanks TDK! |

Qwertyiopisme, yea, I actually have one of those 20-to-24 pin adapters that came with my own PSU. But I wonder if it's the same as a native 24-pin.
Anyhow since my friend keeps his computers for about 5 years (he's upgrading from a PIII w/ no AGP!), I'd like to get the newest ATX spec if possible with dual +12V rails and all the new connecters. |

There are several dual 12V lined PSUs with 20 pin connectors (the Nexus 4090 some to mind). _________________

The Nexus 4090 exceeds the budget ...
Aiming for $80 US before shipping and ideally lower if possible so the monitor can be from a well-known manufacturer. |
