Zalman showed at CeBIT a new CPU cooler, the CNPS9700. It's an evolution of the CNPS9500 as in the 7700 was an evolution of the 7000 and as such it also has a bigger fan: 110mm vs 92mm.

A bigger 9500 with a 110mm fan eh? :D

Looks awesome - I'll take it!

Seriously, I've been thinking about getting a CNPS9500, but I've held off because of all the reports of them being kind of noisy. I'm hopeful that Zalman heard this feedback and improved on this with the CNPS9700.

There were some pretty sick coolers at Cebit 2006. For example Cooler Master had one with two 12cm fans! I felt tempted at posting it here, but I guess people have hard time handling even one fan... It wasn't a tower heatsink, but rather a fhuge XP-120, would be fun to see how it compares to this. This 9700 has to be the best performing bling bling cooler out there. Let's hope it is silent as well.

Edit: Well, so much for resisting temptation...
Does it say in the black sign "Two 120mm..."

Rpsgc: I'm not trying to hijack the thread, just say the word and I'll edit it away...

Wait for Thermaltake to come out with a clone of this Zalman with their 130mm fan... Heck that would probably tip over a tower case unless it was leaning against a wall.

what's the point of the 9700??? The heatpipes on my 9500 are cool to the touch when the cpu is under full load, that's with the fan on it's lowest setting. I know my temps are being reported incorrectly, but the cpu sits at 41 under full load. And with the trend focusing more on perfromance per watt, are these gigantors really going to be necessary??

Then again, there's always the enthusiast overclocker..

I figure that with a larger fan than the CNPC9500, it might be able to be run at a lower RPM, which would hopefully be quieter.

but the 9500 is practically silent at it's lowest setting. my ati silencer is louder, and it's running at a lower speed.

There are also people out there with Prescotts, Smithfields and Preslers.

Don't forget the FX-60 @ 110W. Unfortunately, the laws of physics still also apply to AMD. :D

Ooh, that's it. I am keeping my stock AMD cooler until those new fans come out. I am a bit worried the Scythe Ninja won't fit my case and it is not exactly cheap over here.

I read in another thread about the possibility of replacing the stock fan in the CNPS9500 (Which makes a racket!) with a Nexus 92 fan. Is this still the preferred replacement, and is this link:
http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/nexus92mm.html
the correct fan? Or is there a better choice (a 92mm one, not interested much in retrofitting).
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

There's already a topic about those and go go for threadjacking.
