While reading one of the threads someone suggested a web page about using sand to cool hard disks, the website http://members.fortunecity.com/bluehat1/heatsink.html also mentions creating your own passive psu, but states "CAUTION: if a fire is caused for some reason, and it is suspected that a modified AC device might have caused it, then insurance companies won't pay anything even if the aim of modification is to improve system reliability, cooling and fault tolerance. Having a modified PSU in your house nullifies your fire insurance." just wondering whether this is the case. Do anyone make fanless 300w psu for sale in the uk?

Unless the fire inspector is attentive enough to spot a modded PSU.

Fire Inspecter: "Hmmmm.......wait a minute!, this charred fan in your PSU is a Panaflo FBA08A12L1A AND it's been modded to run at 7 volts. It's supposed to be a Globe MCL12045-A, do you know anything about this son?"

Me: "Uh, Uh, um, no sir, it was like that when I bought it sir, I SWEAR, really.....!"
