The anatomy of a completely silent, compact PC is not complicated. For simpler
builds like those based around Intel's Atom processor, not much is required:
a nice sized passive heatsink, an enclosure with plenty of ventilation, and
a solid state drive. For a faster system, the higher power draw and resulting
heat becomes more of a problem.
A common silent solution is to clamp heatpipes to the hottest components and
funnel the heat to heatsinks integrated into the case exterior where there's
plenty of surface area available, turning the enclosure into a vital cooling
component rather than just a container with aesthetic value. While effective,
this approach usually means the size of the case must be more or less proportional
to the power draw of the parts inside. A system of this type with the most powerful
modern desktop hardware would be very large and cumbersome; a performance compromise
is required for a SFF machine.
Such a balancing act is at play in Logic Supply's SolidLogic Montevina GS-L10.
With the aid of a mobile processor, a tried and true trick for bringing power
consumption down, the GS-L10 manages to house its mini-ITX motherboard in a
"heatsink case" that adds only 3 inches to the overall footprint.
With three sides of the enclosure composed of aluminum fins, this mini-PC has
a decidedly industrial look. The front facia in particular is very plain, entirely
devoid of switches, buttons, and ports. The power button is located in the rear.

The system has an Intel socket P motherboard supporting various mobile Celeron
and Core 2 chips and utilizes integrated GMA 4500MHD graphics. There are a pair
of DDR2 SODIMM slots, a 2.5" drive bay, and power is provided by a PicoPSU
and AC power brick. The configuration of our sample was slightly upgraded over
the US$900 base model featuring a dual core Celeron T3100 rather than a single
core Celeron 585, 2GB of RAM instead of 1GB, and a 16GB SLC SSD as opposed to
a 80GB hard drive.
