Re: Never trust Micronet broadband routers again :(

I will echo Vicotnik in saying it is completely unrealistic for a a router from 2003 in that price range to route 100 mbit. The extremely popular WRT54G came out in Dec 2002 and can barely do 25 mbit without problems. The CPUs used in low end routers back in 2003 simply were not fast enough to do 1...

Looking for old PC800 RAMBUS motherboard for XEON CPU

Hello, perhaps somebody with good knowledge in old server boards will help me with say ASUS etc. server class MB that would have RAMBUS PC800 memory capacity up to 4GB (8 modules total). Would support 2x CPUS. Don't ask why I need this old stuff :) All I can say RAMBUS is miles ahead of DDR RAM, eve...

Re: Is there specification for RJ45 pins crimp wire depth?

Got the crimp tool from knipex model 97 51 10 http://www.knipex.com/index.php?id=1216&L=1&page=group_detail&parentID=1299&groupID=1301 Very happy with the tool. Works as expected. I ordered spare blades (97 59 06) now, should have done this with the crimp tool. The crimp depth is 5.9mm so that's nic...

Re: Is there specification for RJ45 pins crimp wire depth?

Proskit replied to my email that even the "clones" I said are true proskit tools. That is very strange because the quality even from photos is not there or Proskit has photoshopped the images on their site. Or it's not actual tools but renderings of the tools. Given the 0.1mm repeatability required ...

It seems Pro'sKit makes this nice crimp tool: http://www.proskit.com.tw/en/product/product_detail.asp?catid=5&itemid=1PK-3003FD14 However there are many china clones, with different handle color and bad quality: http://g04.s.alicdn.com/kf/HT1fstLFNlaXXagOFbXP/200227133/HT1fstLFNlaXXagOFbXP.jpg http:...

Re: Is there specification for RJ45 pins crimp wire depth?

I investigated the EZ-RJ45 and I wonder if the exposed copper wire from the front will not oxidate? The price is another thing, these are not cheap. And third I think anyone can turn regular quality connector to EZ one just by drilling holes with micro precision drill ! P.S. I just tried it, I drill...

Re: Is there specification for RJ45 pins crimp wire depth?

Another thing to watch for is your plugs being designed for solid or stranded wire, mixing these will also result in poor connections. Patch cords are usually stranded for flexibility and station cabling will be solid in most cases. I also read wikipedia article on different connectors. But nowdays...

Re: Never trust Micronet broadband routers again :(

Just because the ports are 10/100 that is no guarantee that the router will be able to fully utilize a 100Mbit internet connection. Nothing strange with LAN-WAN being nowhere near 100Mbit on a router from 2003. I benchmarked the 1 and 4 LAN ports their speed as around 90Mbps. The LAN port 1 and WAN...

Nice link about that Pentium 90Mhz booting windows 7, it just shows what crap is windows 8. That it can't boot in a pc running windows 7. This has something to do how the DVD is made. The boot loader of windows 8 is non standard and can't boot on some DVD drives at all. That said getting back on top...

Re: Is there specification for RJ45 pins crimp wire depth?

Getting back to the topic is there specification for this? Like how many millimeters the pins should be recessed from top of ...

Never trust Micronet broadband routers again :(

Well just decided to let you know that back ink 2003 I bought the Micronet SP881 VPN Firewall Router. The router was rated 10/100Mbps on all ports. However in 2009 when it was possible to get 100Mbps Internet I discovered that the WAN port is only 10Mbps ! Back then Micronet was very respectable net...

Should the blades penetrate the wire and exit from another side a...

Re: GFX coil whine/noise

I would recommend to get server hardware it makes no funny noises like coil whine. This is true for server motherboards.

Also I can confirm that older GFX cards did not have this problem.
I first noticed this on some gigabyte mb, that were making coild whine while moving the mouse.

Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?

Unless manufacturers get parts for free for AMD and need to buy them for Intel the board prices do reflect the construction reliability in the long term scenario. Nice, reliable server gear is great. But the parts situation has to come first. If you can't afford spares and you can't procure replacement parts quickly, you have a serious problem! Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?

Discussing this in a thread about an expensive low-wattage Xeon is a bit weird by the way. Such controllers and the drives connected to them burn so much more power than you save compared with a regular Xeon... Unraid can spun down drives not in use, and it can distrubute your data so that for exam...

Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?

I can say some words about power usage measurements done by so called "experts", someone has measured AMD APU E350 as 7W (xbitlabs) another review site 50W so the moral is: get normal meters when measuring AC power usage, that takes into account power factor, reactive power etc. and is very precise ...

Re: Is the Intel Xeon E3-1260L available to buy?

Well the so called budge motherboards have cheap components, since I'm novice in electronics I know how much fot example cheap resitor costs and tight spec. resistor costs. So it's hard imagine when people build their NAS with cheap motherboards (perhaps their data is not important) with no ECC RAM,...

Hi, I'm looking for a case for my mini-itx 6 HDD's server based on perhaps Zotac H55. The 6 HDD bays are all going to be populated. What case will be more silent? I need to be able to pull each HDD individually, no hot swap needed as it's very expensive. I can damp my case as needed I have the mater...
