You are correct, and I’m running a 6800GT. Since I need to use both regular PCI slots, and since the Zalman cooler on my card would block one of those two if I moved it to the lower PCI-e slot, I had to mount it in the top one. I definitely had clearance problems with the NB47J, and I ended up remov...

#2 in the last picture is the CPU fan. If you refer to the very first picture in this thread, it will be listed as fan #3. It’s in the exact same position behind the duct, only flipped around to exhaust hot air. I tried all sorts of ways to mount #3. At one point, I even had strings throughout the c...

idiot - in that set up it looks like fan#3 will be taking in hot air from PSU and fan#2. How is it practically? As Moritz said, it might be a factor. However, the air exhausted from the PSU section just isn't very hot right now (though granted I've only checked during idle times). But if this is a ...

Here’s the final pattern… unless I decide to flip the CPU fan to intake. http://www.imagehosting.us/himages/ihnp-576833.jpg I tried to achieve the negative pressure that everyone raves about. ;) The case is definitely quiet, even with everything (including the Zalman on the VGA) running at 12V. Well, I’ve built a dampened Compucase for the parents that is absolutely cool and silent: suspended Samsung HD, a couple of undervolted Nexus, S12 PS. But the P180 is my machine, and it will be often used for pretty heavy gaming. As such, it needs to allow a certain level of performance. So I’m aimi...

Well, they’re not all necessary, and they’re not all inaudible (though quiet). I suppose that I was in the mindset that many quiet fans moving a little air a piece would be a better solution than fewer, louder fans each moving more air. But again, these were moved around all yesterday, and this was ...

P180 Airflow Question

This is the fan layout that I’m considering. http://www.imagehosting.us/himages/ihnp-563368.jpg First, that’s a lot of fans installed. But I’m currently running them all at 12V, except the Zalman which is at 5V, and they’re really not that loud. Too load for a final build, yes, but my controller has...

Question: are we not allowed to put in a 120mm fan on the bottom / front HD area? Why would you not be able to? The P180 already ships with a thick 38mm fan in the HDD/PSU duct; you're welcome to swap it out if you see fit. There's also a mounting bracket for a 120mm fan in front of the upper HDD c...

I'm using an S12-430 on that board and everything reaches fine (though they're a little tight).

I encountered this same problem earlier today. Furthermore, on the DFI NF4 boards, 80% of the fan duct cutout lies over the top-most PCI-e slot, so that almost all the air is blown over the backside of the card. :( I took mine out, since it's useless with MB and graphics card (6800GT). I'll have to ...

Re: Another P180 first impression

Whoa! Whoa! Hold on there. The fan cage releases very easily and smoothly. A pair of tiny locking tabs is the key. Press gently on the extended side wall of the fan cage toward the inside of the case, and the lock tabs will be pulled away from their holes. Now you can slide the cage free. Nothing a...

Re: Another P180 first impression

It took me a while to figure out the front fan cage can't be removed and you have to remove the front air filter in order to screw a fan in. Kinda makes it hard to line holes up. Unless I'm wrong and there is a way to remove the front fan cage (as well as the bottom one)??? They’re removable; I pul...

So your argument is that the transfer of vibration to the metal isn't a problem, because the panels are so 'dead'? The panels where the fans attach are regular 0.8mm steel, not the plastic-aluminum sandwich. So they're not any more deadened than other cases of this material. I can't comment on the ...

So am I. At least the packaging is being made clearer for the future, I suppose.

And at least ChiefValue lowered the price on my motherboard. $128. *sigh* Hopefully that's all that was damaged.

Why oh why can't I run my HDD power from PSU to lower HDD cage without going into the MB compartment first? 3. It does not seem possible to run cables along the back. Agreed. Ru...

A Seasonic S12 can reach the connectors on the DFI (although you might not have enough lines to power all your devices while using the MB floppy and molex connectors as well, which are a bit out of the way... depending on your setup, of course).

Also, if the panel is actually hitting something when it vibrates (rather than the vibration alone producing the noise), applying some insulating materials to separate the two surfaces might be more beneficial.

A mass loader should help with this. Applying it will add a significant amount of mass to the side panel, thereby changing its resonant frequency and hopfully reducing/eliminating the vibration. (I hope that my Physics is correct... it's been a while. ;)) Peel & Seal is probably the most accessible,...

You definitely used the wrong screws. The ones you used were designed for the Sonata/BQE/P180 drive trays. The large flange is to fit over the grommets on the drive trays. I initially made the same mistake on a Sonata about 2 years ago. The screw sizes are just a bit different and I had trouble rem...

idiot: Your photo appears to be of the screw that is designed for the hard drives ... not the motherboard. Glad that I saved you from a potential problem! :) Another option, if someone can't scavenge an old case for screws, would be to use the screws meant for the optical drive brackets. P180: Motherboard Warning!

Watch out when installing motherboards in the P180! Mine just fried. :( :( :( The motherboard mounting screws that Antec provides have a wide head that serves as a non-removable washer. The black case on the side is a Compucase LX-6A19. This is meant as a size comparison, since it’s a pretty well known design.
On the left is the P180. :)

Most sites I've seen that list two fans usually list the 38mm and the rear fan as "Standard", and then list the blowhole fan as Optional. Techonweb doesn't indicate any of that, just says 2 fans installed. Curious idea. I have no idea the quality of these fans, but maybe it'd be worth a cheaper cas...
