To my knowlege the backplate only adds stability and gives something for the cpu cooler to screw into. Some Mobos (like gigabyte) have a plastic plate with clips rather than threaded screw holes and those usualy have to be replaced. If the plastc backplate has threaded screw holes (and your screws f...

A degree or two for twice the weight (300g vs 590g), no thanks. There are many better coolers in that high of weight class. Coolers should be compared by weight rather than name. Very different people would buy the copper version and the aluminum version. Regardless the katana is a very good cooler ...

I too did not want to give up my blue lights so I got a blue could cathode and some yate loon fans. The cathode is brighter but I can turn it off so its not a problem for me.

Nice job on the side panels and I love aluminum cases (I own a lian li)

Custom chipset cooler mod

I have been looking for a solution for my nforce4 heat problems so I had the great Idea to mod a zalman single heat pipe graphics cooler. I started by using the spare heatsink blocks and drilling 2 holes straight through the shorter block, so that they would line up with those on the larger one and ...

So I did no bending at all, the hp is in the same orentation as the graphics card basicly and the Hs is supported by the 6600gt's cooler under it. My temps are now quite a bit lower a s...

I think I can do this without any bending! but there are still two issues 1> can the 5200 be cooled with one HS and no HP (its only in a server so I think It can) 2> with my plan the HS for the chipset would be directly above the zalman cooler for my 6600gt (about a quarter inch between them) would ...

My main problem is that the chip set is directly above my 6600gt HS. My case is a lian li pc 65 w/ front and back 12v YL so the air flow is good. try using standard thermal compound (put your pc sideways) to test and if it works use the glue, but if you know it will work why not just use the glue in the 1st place?

so can someone confirm you can bend these fins without breaking them

my nforce4 (ECS Kn1) runs at 48c and 55c while gaming with the stock HS and no fan. I know these things run hot but 55c scares me and I want it to be cooler. I'm toying with the Idea of modding a zalman HP cooler or using a ZALMAN ZM17-CU and bending the fins up.

Experiment with Convection cooling

I'm planning on conducting an experiment on applications of forced convection with a chimney using a light bulb for heat source. I plan on constructing a test box with a slanted top leading to varying size chimney; there would be only one intake with the light bulb centered. I know many of you have ...
