Re: [HTPC] Shopping list feedback please

@ CA_Steve Thanks for the good answer! I indeed mean a closed door cabinet (updated my start topic). The depth of cabinet is larger on the left (62 cm) than on the right (27 cm). I will place the HTPC on the right, so there should be an air gap of 18-23 cm. At a later point in time, I might replace ...

[HTPC] Shopping list feedback please

Hi all, I'd like some feedback on my shopping list. First of all, the goals of this system: * The HTPC will be located in the living room, inside a closed cabinet with the plasma TV on top * The HTPC will be connected with Gbit ethernet to my desktop (which is in the office) * The desktop contains a...

Re: Western Digital Red 4TB & Se 4TB Hard Drives

fyi:
I just bought 11x 4TB WD Red and figured out that they have TLER set to 7 seconds (= ok for hardware RAID) and Head Parking is set at 300 seconds (I suppose this is ok for hardware RAID too?)

I don't have experience with the Dual Top (only the single), but it appears to be identical (albeit with 2 pump slots) as the X-TOP. So it should perform the same, and EK's stuff is generally high quality. Mounting the top to the pump is very easy, unscrew the old top, and you have 4 pieces (pump, ...

Hi all, I see many positive things about the EK-D5 X-TOP G1/4 Rev.2 I was wondering if the EK-D5 Dual TOP 2-LOOPS is as good in quality and noise. (I will use 1 loop for the CPU and 1 loop for the GPU / mobo) This is what it looks like: http://www.highflow.nl/images/detailed_images/d5-dual-top-2-loo...

The HDs are on there way back for replacement now... Hopefully the replacements dont have the same issue I've also made following thread for this issue awhile ago: http://forums.seagate.com/t5/ATA-and-Serial-ATA-drives/Newer-firmware-does-not-show-up-when-running-the-quot-serial/m-p/51210/highlight/...

I have some reading for you: see here thanks for the link! I'm having trouble though figuring out what the relation is with my HD issues? it is a completely different HD it even is a different generation of HD (2008 250-500GB vs 2009 2TB?) mine is an internal HD, not an external one. So there is no...

for some of the drives it is indeed not very loud, but for others it is sometimes actually quite loud and easy to hear even through music playing at normal volume and there is indeed of course those 2 times that it clicked for a couple of seconds, which certainly isn't normal (but I do not know whic...

Seagate Barracuda LP 5900rpm owners: please help

Hi all, I just bought 4x Seagate Barracuda LP ST32000542AS, 2TB to put in a RAID 5 Before even trying this, I wanted to thoroughly test each drive individually first. That is when I discovered that all 4 make clicking noises while idling I created a topic about this here with a lot of details: http:...

thanks for the tip! that does seem like a nice PSU, especially if you have a low idle power consumption it is dead silent but it seems like the price will be about the same as the seasonic M12d (both too expensive actually ;) ), while it has a lower maximum watt i think in my case, it will be about ...

Thanks for the feedback and links! Most reviews do mention that it is louder than other "silent PSUs" Especially at high load (75% and up) it gets extremely loud according to: http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article/2009/05/27/corsair_hx850w_power_supply/6 But I can nowhere find how it compares to the Seasonic or Antecs below this hig...

Between the Zalman and the Seasonic, the latter is the better choice. I know.... but that price :D You can't ask for the best then whine about the price of the best. If that's not good, then try sticking a CP-850 in the Stacker. Looks like it might fit in the bottom with a bit of work. But ho...

It's safe to say that all the system power figures discussed in this thread are in fact AC power numbers. Assume 80% efficiency, and you have 400W DC load. Now, here's a very simple fact: All PSUs reviewed by SPCR are in extremely demanding thermal conditions, with a lot of the heat generated by th...

The OP is proposing Intel Core I7 920 D0 @ 4-4,4Ghz (watercooled with it's own radiator and pump) Core i7 power consumption increases enormously at these sort of overclocks. For example, a real world 920 system at 4Ghz consumed 417w. And the jump from 3.8Ghz to 4Ghz on its own increased power draw ...
