my Lenovo T400 that I got for about 100 bucks is pretty quiet.
I upgrade the HDD to an SSD.
the P8400 that came with it is a 25W CPU and it rarely wake up the fans when i'm just surfing online ect...
and overall it's an enjoyable notebook to use to say the least.

power fans using external USB unit.
I'm trying to run a DIY external HDD box, and i want a fan to cool them. 1) I can use a regular AC mini fan, but that's a little bit over kill. 2) I decided hey, computer fans will do the trick... but powering them is problematic. then I remember I have a bunch of those outlet USB thing, can they po...

At worst, your system may draw 250 watts. But even that would require an exceptional amount of effort to pull off. (Running F@H, while playing Doom3, while defragging every hard drive, while burning a DVD.) Any decent 400watt PSU will do the job. But with 10 fans  and 5 HDD's, why even...

Re: new fan at tekgems
There's a new 120 mm fan at Tekgems. It's a clear Logisys for $3.60 w/purchase of 10. I don't have any specs. and neither does Mr. Kim - I'm sure you could get them from logisys. - FG I believe this is an everflow from looking at the corners. it's nice, i hope they are quiet. I need a couple more 1...

Question on UPS units?
i can get an APC 350VA unit for 22 dollar, so that's relatively cheap, but 350VA isn't gonna last me long, well i don't know exactly how long it's gonna last, but 350VA sounds a little weak to me, So I wanna buy 2. Is that a good idea.

That's almost exactly how my hard drive was sitting in the case last year. Just remember to take the drive out if you transport the computer anywhere! Try carefully picking up the drive while it's powered on. If the noise decreases, then making a suspension-mount will help. You can make a really ea...
