What AC Silencer did you try? Because I have an ATI Silencer 1 Rev. 2 on my own 9800 Pro and I have to say it's VERY quiet. There is some slight fan noise @ 12V, but undervolt it and it's practically silent.

I have a Pentium 4 2.4 myself (paired with 1GB of RAM and a 9800 Pro video card) and I see absolutely no compelling reason to upgrade anytime soon. This computer still runs anything I throw at it just fine, hell, even Black and White 2 runs fine.

Yeah, that's the main reason I would always pick an Arctic Silencer over anything else. It does the only sensible thing: extract the heat out of the case. Plus, I have a dislike for anything Zalman.

It's powerful enough for your needs, and sleeved (and blue!). I think modular PSU's will be out of your price range; that's a feature typically found on high-end PSU's such as the Antec NeoPower.

I'm pretty sure they have. I have an ATI Silencer 1 Rev. 2 on my 9800 Pro and there is no clicking noise at all (I also have a pre-Rev. 2-version and it's terrible in that regard). I'm running it at 7V and it's simply inaudible.

Yeah, should work just fine. Your CPU and motherboard will draw 6A tops from the 12V1 rail, and 8A on the 12V2 rail should be sufficient for an X800GT + hard drive and optical drive. None of your components are very power hungry
