Re: How much will a 300w power supply run?

What power supply are you currently using? Based on it's efficiency, to figure the power used by the system, you need to take a percentage of the power used at the wall plug -- probably, it is in the 75-80% range, so it is using 161-172 watts. That leaves ~128-139 watts additional to the current se...

Re: How much will a 300w power supply run?

What do people think as far as running the following from a 300watt Silverstone ST30NF? Core 2 Duo E8200 (stock) 4GB DDR3 1 x HDD 1 x SSD Radeon 5850 1GB. My Silverstone currently powers everything as above, except instead of the Radeon 5850, I have a GeForce 8800GT 512mb. With a watt meter, this pu...

Re: Noise: Seagate 80GB vs Seagate 160GB? Difference?

For the latest 7200.9 models, Is there a noise difference between the 80GB and the 160GB, since they're both one platter models from what I've read? Also would one have better performance than the other? (Considering they're both one platter, simply one is double sided, I'd assume equal.) Thanks in...

Hi there, it's not image quality that's different, it's performance. The X1900XT is a faster card than the 7900GT.

Does anyone know where Yate Loon fans be can bought from in the UK? I've checked all 20 or so online suppliers in my favourites list and none stock any Yate Loon fans. Thanks!

That's a pity... I'll be using that motherboard to build a dual-core system with a 3800+ for a friend and I was hoping to lower the voltage the same as I had done on my Asus ASN-SLI Premium.

My x2 3800+ is cooled with a zalman 7000b-alcu running at 1650rpm, so it's almost 5v. Idle temp is 48c
Have you tried undervolting your processor? My 3800+ runs at stock speed with a permanent 1.1volts.

It seems like an awful lot of fans for a low power setup. You can easily cool all this with just 1 fan.

No offence meant, but I can't for a minute believe that from one metre away you can't hear anything. My PC has one 120mm Nexus and when that's at 12volts (1000rpm), I can definitely hear it, nevermind the 5 fans you are running! My computer is also about a metre away.

I run an X2 3800+, Radeon X800XL, 1 gig of RAM and 2 hard disks from my fanless 300watt Silverstone. The system is rock solid stable, even under considerable load, and has been since November last year when I got the power supply. My system is on for a good 12-16 hours everyday.

They have lower maximum rotational speeds. Although it's not a noise that is made during operation, laptop optical drives don't have a motor to eject the drawer, they just pop out and you have to fully open it yourself and push it shut yourself.

How have people managed to get rid of the 'chattering' you get with Seagate drives? My PATA 7200.7 starts making a seek type noise when it's been idle for while. In my books, this makes it totally unacceptable for a quietPC.

ATX 1.3 power supplies can and do have SATA connectors. I'd recommend a fanless PSU for that setup - either the 300watt Silverstone or the Antec Phantom 350.

No, it's a fanless Silverstone. And my Nexus runs at 5volts only until the processor hits 60º, which it hardly ever does.

I would say too hot is before that, at the level which shortens the life of your components. I think I read somewhere that PC components within limits would ru...
