Re: How much will a 300w power supply run?
What power supply are you currently using? Based on it's efficiency, to figure the power used by the system, you need to take a percentage of the power used at the wall plug -- probably, it is in the 75-80% range, so it is using 161-172 watts. That leaves ~128-139 watts additional to the current se...

Re: How much will a 300w power supply run?
What do people think as far as running the following from a 300watt Silverstone ST30NF? Core 2 Duo E8200 (stock) 4GB DDR3 1 x HDD 1 x SSD Radeon 5850 1GB. My Silverstone currently powers everything as above, except instead of the Radeon 5850, I have a GeForce 8800GT 512mb. With a watt meter, this pu...

Re: Noise: Seagate 80GB vs Seagate 160GB? Difference?
For the latest 7200.9 models, Is there a noise difference between the 80GB and the 160GB, since they're both one platter models from what I've read? Also would one have better performance than the other? (Considering they're both one platter, simply one is double sided, I'd assume equal.) Thanks in...

er. isn't that the surface scan that these Seagates automatically do after a minute or two of idle? there's other threads on it here, I recall some people saying it went away after a couple months, don't remember if you can simply turn it off somehow. anyways, not what I'm here for Yes that is it, ...

BTW, my room is carpetted too. I guess the only way to convince you that my PC is quiet is to invite you to my room and sit where I sit. =) Very much so I guess. I do have particularly sharp hearing, and I have been used to a system with only 1 fan for a while now, so I guess if I changed it, it wo...

If you take the time to read people's posts here carefully, you will learn a lot more than just by simply skimming. I didn't skim read, my point is that a computer with so many fans can definitely still be heard, especially when my 1 Nexus fan at 12volts can be heard (but which normally runs at 5vo...

This isn't a case review, it's a DIY report of an upgrade. Yes, the "reviewer" seemed to have a difficult time with the case, but he doesn't intend to review it — he's just reporting his exeperiences. Save your criticism for when they actually review the case. He's a bit of a dumb-ass system builde...

I'd love to know if such a thing exists. The momentary pause as the drive spins up is annoying too, even though you are not trying to access it! I too can do all the things you mention (can sometimes browse through my storage drive without it spinning up). I can also sometimes play a few MP3s withou...

I would say too hot is before that, at the level which shortens the life of your components. This is really a moot point though, as the average life of the components running very hot is still far longer than you'd ever keep the PC. I think I read somewhere that PC components within limits would ru...
