I'd agree that it does dampen sound a lot because it adds a lot of weight to the normally-thin panels--but I think that if I tried to do this again I would just go buy adhesive-backed rubber sheet and use that instead. 100X cleaner and no smell at all to ever worry about. You might even be able to f...

I built a case once, trying to use the spray-on sound deadener stuff for cars. It is some kind of tar with fibers added to help it "cling" better. The stuff smelled badly like tar. I mean, it STANK like hot tar. People said it will smell for a day, or two, but after that it won't. Mine didn't. Two w...

Electrostatic-only air filters seem to be a great idea--there's no filter to clog and impede airflow, so they can be silent (by not requiring much air pressure) yet they can capture ALL non-gasses that pass through them. All of that is true in theory, but there are practical problems involved with u...

Re: Silent 41cm side-blowing fan case mod brainstorm..
You can get silent room air filters for cheap.. here's one for $40 which has an AC-powered 41 cm fan. http://www.heartlandamerica.com/browse/item.asp?PIN=93701&SC=WIS20001& It would be as ugly as hell, but would it be a stretch to make a case mod which replaced a case side panel with such a filter ...

No, I don't do this professionally--just for relatives and friends.

"Use sorbothane" How do you even know what that is or if they are using it| I see you are from Illinois. Where is your store located? Sorbothane is priced higher than other kinds of rubber, I'd think if they were using it the case manufacturer wouldn't hesitate to say. The website shows they make i...

Hey guys, I'm looking for recommendations for my upcoming system - and although I'm sure this topic is worn out by now, I'd rather hear some simplified facts rather than reading through a couple hundred posts about cases like the Antec p1** or Silverstone something or other. ..... I'm one person who thinks that the P180 is not all that great; it is nicely built but not worth the price difference, IMO. I think the main thing that makes my current setup "quiet" is that the fans are slowed down by a fan controller panel. I have good heatsinks and good fans (though I don't think ...

What I would do is try one tube inside another, with the inner-tube wrapped with some cotton fabric. And the inside tube would have small holes drilled along its length. The giant heatsinks are not that hard to find. The heat pipes would be the adventure here. If you can get the sink blocks machined, then why not try to make the pipes yourself? The top fan is only held in with two screws in the rear corners, and it has hooks to hold the front two corners. My problem with the lower drive area is the cables want to stick straight out of the plugs. I was using SATA drives with 4-pin power. ....Fanless power supplies are not meant to run with no air moving through them. They just allow you to move the fan elsewhere. There are other various threads with fitting particular parts in the P180, so this is more of a general discussion of what hardware the case comes with as-is.
