If you guys don't mind me steering the thread back towards the original topic, I would be interested to know the best passive cooler for a demanding application such as an overclocked i7. Let's just assume, hypothetically, that an active fan solution was not possible. Price and case size also are n...

ooh, I thought the only people buying i7 chips were "gamers with too much money"?!?!? LOL Since 920 prices continue to drop, along with motherboard and memory prices, a Core i7 920 system or upgrade is now quite reasonably priced. And one of the main points of a Core i7 920 is how easy it is to ove...

I thought I had the perfect plan - bare drive in 2.5" Scythe Quiet Drive and then put that in the P182 lower HDD bay. Well this POS Scythe enclosure uses non standard screws, so there is no way to connect it to the drive bay. Anyone know if the No Vibes enclosure has this problem? I think I'm just g...

if you have the know-how, you can always make your own. take a dead motherboard, solder off fan headers, get a fan from the dump, hop over to your local electronics store (like radio shack) and get shrink wrap and wire, and just get the other connector off a dead fan. i will say though, the male en...

WTB: 3-pin fan to 3-pin extension wire for a fan
I just need a simple 3-pin fan to 3-pin extension wire for a fan, I can't find anywhere to buy this for under $6 shipped and I think that's ridiculous for something that costs about $0.10. 12" should be long enough, but if you have 24" I'll take it. This is what I'm talking about http://www.svc.com/...

Since you've got a free PCI slot in the back, you could use one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999046 Use a fan splitter for one of the controls and you're set for all 4 fans. that looks amazing thanks :) Or use series wiring. It's free. Wire the 120mm fans in se...

Suggestions for slowing down 4 fans, no open external bays
I just built a new HTPC/file server and I need a way to slow the fans down. I just turned it on to make sure it would post, and it felt like they were all blowing at full speed. So far I've found the Zalman RC100 resistors which look like a good option. I don't want 4 Fan Mates crammed in there. Ful...

I just tried this and it doesn't work. You can separate the red frame from the copper heatsink, but part of the red frame sticks u...

Fair enough, that makes a lot more sense. :) Really though I doubt heat would be an issue, these things don't use hardly any power (maybe a few watts max). Why not try just cramming them in there and seeing how temps do? I'm assuming the drives support SMART and you can monitor temps in Windows. If...
