This is a HARD one: Antec alternative
Hello guys... I am into silent pc computing from years and I built my rig around an awesome Antec Sonata 1. I wanted to gift me a new case for Christmas and I searched ALL case manufacturers, but didn't found a single one that is good for my needs! Antec Sonata seem to be the King... but I want to c...

Are you sure that's completely true? A PATA C.F. Adapter is a PASSIVE adapter - think it as a 2'5" IDE to 3,5" IDE adapter. It only does a mechanical conversion and has not any chip for converting the signal (it would be easier to explain if you ever see one). So the speed only depends on your C.F....

What about the Biostar T A760G? It's more expensive and has 2 more memory slots, but appears to have more BIOS options. I don't have enough posts to post a URL, but the Newegg number is N82E16813138137 I have it, the differences are the one you have said. Does have ECC support. Can undervolt. Good ...

Good thread. Just what I was searching for. Last year I bought a GA-MA74GM-S2H rev.1, I paired it with ECC memory, and everything seemed to be working. So last week I bought a GA-MA74GM-S2H rev.3 to replace my rev.1 (yeah... no comment), my power consumption drop from 28W to 27W and I was quite happ...

Re: New study of DRAM errors and ECC memory
here's a study of memory error rates which was conducted recently: http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~bianca/papers/sigmetrics09.pdf it claims to be "the first large-scale study of DRAM memory errors in the field," and it "covers the majority of machines in Google's fleet and spans nearly 2.5 yrs," which a...

I fixed the HDD humming noise on my Sonata!
I did try everything: - I put acoustic foam all inside my case - I removed the plastic mask on the front case - I used paper to let the 3,5" and 5,25" bays stay firmly in position - I used Zalman's rubbered bolts on all my HDDs - I changed the HDDs from Samsung to Western Digital - I changed the hea...

I still don't know if this motherboard works with PCIe 2.0 graphic cards or if it have been solved, does anyone know? I use my P5Q-EM with a 8800GTS 512MB (PCI-E 2.0) since day one; I had no problems with either BIOS 0202 or 0402 (I am just playing with Fallout 3 and Mass Effect). I also hot-swappe...

What sort of trouble? I find it hard to believe there are software problems with the PCI-E bus. Look here . It's not a problem if you're using it for graphic cards. OK: 16x PCI-E port should not used for anything different than a VGA. Now you know it. Does it change something? No. There are 6 SATA....

Besides being a bad overclocker, the P5Q-EM disables the IGP if you put a card in the x16 slot, even if it's not a graphic card, see page 6 in the thread I linked to. I don't know if that's common though. I am using a 8800GTS with it. That's why it is a great mATX, not for his average power consump...

IIRC GDDR3 consumer more power than GDDR5, which means that 512MB of GDDR5 memory would consume less power than 512MB of GDDR3. Therefore it would be safe to assume that 1GB of GDDR3 also consumes more power than 512MB of GDDR5. All this however is contingent on the fact that GDDR3 consumes more po...
