Re: WD Blue 1TB single-platter WD10EZEX

I have one which I use as an external disk, and it's louder than my WD20EARS. So much that I wouldn't like to have it in my desktop computer and hear it all the time.

Re: WD Green vs. WD Red for quietness?

I recently bought 2 WD30EFRX for my NAS and they're both louder than a WD20EARS I also have.

Re: SilverStone Precision PS07: Budget MicroATX Tower

I replaced the stock fans with 2 Scythe SY1225SL12M (one intake, one outtake), softmounted. They spin at around 700 rpm. Wouldn't two intakes make more sense? Why would you do that? The Idea for me was creating an air flow from the front to the back. I also have a top-down heatsink (Noctua NH-C12P ...

Re: SilverStone Precision PS07: Budget MicroATX Tower

I bought this case recently. I'm used to Antec build quality, so when I got this case it seemed flimsy to me. But I made some modifications and now I'm happy with it. This is what I did: I sticked vinyl tiles to the side panels to make them heavier. The panels are really thin, they can be bent easil...

Then it seems it really needs an external speaker. Have a look at this screenshot. It has an option named 'startup sound'.

Re: DH77EB + I5-3750k Combination Low Power

There's a review of the DH77EB motherboard here (in Korean). They have screenshots of all the bios screens. Indeed, no trace of option for controlling the processor voltage.

Cbutters, is it true that the motherboard makes some kind of startup sound? How is it like?

Re: DH77EB + I5-3750k Combination Low Power

What about temperatures? I'm considering building a system with exactly the same motherboard and CPU, but with a Noctua NH-C12P SE14 heatsink with fan running at 5-7v, and I'm a bit concerned about the TIM Intel is using now. How is the passive cooling working for you? On top of that, I think the i5...

A mATX version of this case wouldn't be bad... If Antec updated the Solo, why not updating the 3480?

Supermicro has some Atom mini-itx motherboards paired with the ICH9R southbridge, which means 4-6 sata native ports:

Those would make a sweet NAS, imho.

Yes, I'm aware about those two cases. But for a NAS I would hide somewhere I don't need an expensive aluminium case. On top of that, Antec has a good reputation for creating well cooled cases, and I'm not sure about the cooling performance on the Fractal case with the very small front air intake. An...

There are new drives with 64MB cache. The model numbers end in EARS instead of EADS.

Does anybody know if there's some change in noise?

I have a Club3D HD3850. I've been using it for 14+ months, and the first thing I did with it was swapping the heatsink for an accelero s1. Zero problems.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but according to this, it seems the case is being upgraded.

I hope Antec starts offering a version without psu, though. It's definitely a very nice case for a mAtx build.

I really like those Asus T3 systems. It'd be great if they launched a new version with the Nvidia mcp79 chipset. And selling them without psu would be nice as well.

IMHO, i think it's best to use an Accelero s1 with any of them. However, ATI AGP cards have a bridge chip on the other side, and that one can get quite hot as well. It defitely gets hot in a HD 2400 AGP of mine.

Just my 2cents.

I'm afraid I haven't been able to get any useful info from the usual suspects (hdtune under windows and hdparm under linux).

FYI, this is what I get from hdparm:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo hdparm -i /dev/sdc1

/dev/sdc1:
HDIO_GET_IDENTITY failed: Invalid argument

Any ideas?

I have the 250gb usb/firewire combo version. Is there a way I can check the hard disk vendor/model without having to open it?

FWIW, the disk is warmer (not much) and a bit noisier than my 160gb WD passport.
