Another mini-review at Quiet PC. Looks like Zalman have a winner on their hands. I'll definitely consider getting one of these to duct to my rear case fan - pending the SPCR review, of course.

QuietPC are taking pre-orders for the 22nd of July.

Personally, I'm waiting for the SPCR review. I fully expect it to p*ss all over everything else, but it's pretty steep.

Provided that you have sufficient airflow in your case, a Zalman VF700 AlCu can cool a 6600GT passively. Just remove a few PCI slot covers below the card. An Antec Smart Power (1600RPM fan) and a Nexus 80mm provided sufficient airflow for my system (see sig). Peak load temperature was in the 60C reg...

You don't specify what chipset you have, but Kingston HyperX memory had difficulties running at 2-2-2-5 on Intel 875/865 boards . I vowed not to buy Kingston memory after that experience -- memory from other companies, using the same memory chips, worked perfectly fine. Somehow Kingston managed to s...

Go for the standard RAM. I doubt you'll be able to notice the difference in latency. I swapped 512MB of 2-2-2-5 Kingston RAM for 1GB of 3-3-3-6 Samsung and couldn't percieve the difference in latency.

I'd expect that the ticking is coming from one of the fans. Put your finger on the hub of each fan (not the blades!) to stop it for a few seconds. Undervolting is the usual culprit. If you want to stop the CPU fan, you'll probably need to temporarily disable CPU fan monitoring in the BIOS: the compu...

I actually found that the middle O-ring reduced the rumbling noise caused by the drive -- you could clearly feel the drive vibrating without it. The drive doesn't make contact with the felt/cork pads though, which I thought was strange. Perhaps I didn't put it together correctly. I wasn't expecting ...

I don't know whether this helps, but I was able to run my 6600GT + VF700AlCu passively in a system with two exhaust fans (a Nexus 80mm at 12V and the stock fan in a 300W Antec Smart Power ~1600-2000RPM).

Disappointing results with NoVibes III

Does anyone have any experiences of using the 180GXP with the NoVibes III? I bought a NoVibes from NoiseControl.de, and have mounted the drive according to the instructions. The drive is mounted in the top-most 5.25" drive bay using plastic rails. However, seeks have a deep rumbling sound similar to...
