Re: Fortron Aurum Gold 400 or Seasonic ss-300et or ?

If you have a two 80+ gold PSUs, one rated for 300w, and one rated for 400w, a 10% difference in efficiency at a load of 30w would be 3-4 watts. Even though I don't have any charts, I'm guessing the difference is under 5%, so maybe a difference of 1-2 watts. That's my guesstimate as to the differenc...

Re: Fortron Aurum Gold 400 or Seasonic ss-300et or ?

I thought I'd post a follow up. I went with the Fortron Aurum Gold 400. I had been running a Corsair 450VX in my server, which is 80 plus certified. Swapping in the Fortron, the idle power draw dropped from 140 to at least 130 watts, maybe a few less. I was actually measuring around 126 watts, but h...

Re: Fortron Aurum Gold 400 or Seasonic ss-300et or ?

On the power supply front, I never heard back from Fortron, and Sparkle tried to convince me to buy one of their 80 Plus bronze power supplies, as they will not be getting any of the lower power Gold units in anytime soon. That leaves the Fortron Aurum Gold 400 and the comparable Seasonic. Since the...

Re: Fortron Aurum Gold 400 or Seasonic ss-300et or ?

Another one to look at is the Seasonic X-series 400W (80 Gold). Some people have complained about buzzing, but mine is silent. The Seasonic is ~$120 shipped after MIR on Newegg, whereas the FSP Aurum 400 is ~$78. The Seasonic is fanless, modular, and uses a single 12v rail, so there are some things...

Re: Fortron Aurum Gold 400 or Seasonic ss-300et or ?

You could also try looking for these two FSP units: FSP Fortron/Source FSP250-60EGA(90) 250W FSP Fortron/Source FSP350-60EGN(90) 350W Not sure tho if they're available over the pond :/ Thanks for the feedback. I tried searching for the FSP250-60EGA last night with no luck, and tried the FSP350-60EG...

Fortron Aurum Gold 400 or Seasonic ss-300et or ?

Hi, I'm in the process of upgrading my home file server. Efficiency and heat are more important than noise. I think the Fortron Aurum Gold 400 (80 Plus Gold Certified) and Seasonic ss-300et (80 Plus Bronze Certified) are the two highest efficiency PSUs in the sub 400w bracket. I'm going to be runnin...

Since neither the 6600GT nor the X800 XL has this connector, am I correct that I don't need a PCI Express ready PSU for my planned configuration? FYI, even if you get a card that requires a "PCI-E" power connector, the card will probably come with an adapter that will take two of your 4-pin molex c...

Some of those zip-tie mounting designs look pretty decent in the thread Illah linked to above. Personally, I went ahead and used these on my Antec SLK-3000B: http://www.siliconacoustics.com/fanisolators1.htm However, I had to: 1. Cut my corners per the guide here: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/vi...

2) Because the GeForce 6600 GT AGP's chipset is located towards the top area of the board unlike the PCIe version, installation of the cooler may be structurally unstable. You can only use it if you have space for it (I think my door's case fan will get in the way). I'd rather wait until they come ...

I've been looking around, but there's nothing for 6600GT agp, except for a zalman unit. Even then, it sticks 30 mm from the edge of the card, and the manufacturer warns that it'll probably be unstable. I'm using the Zalman unit on a 6600GT AGP and am very pleased. I'm not worried about stability at...

I'm running a setup like this currently. I've purchased several of these (they're cheap enough): http://www.svc.com/3pinyadapter.html I have that hooked up to my northbridge fan header on my Abit IC7, and I have 2 120mm MadDog whisper fans ("fair" quality yate loons) hooked up to it (my northbridge ...

Guys, thanks for the info. I ordered the VF700-Cu from www.crazypc.com for $36.57 shipped to the Chicago suburbs (www.theboyz.biz has it for $25.76, but they don't have much of a resellerratings history and I didn't check their shipping). I also ordered an XFX 6600GT AGP w/dual DVI out from www.zipz...

Video Card Fan Header Usage with aftermarket coolers?

I've done a bit of searching and can't seem to find much info on this. I'm currently considering buying a 6600GT. It looks like the fan header on the video card is a small 2 pin connector, and it looks like this is standard on most video cards, compared with the 3 pin on most fans that have an RPM s...

Omega:

Do you have a link? I checked the Best Byte website and couldn't find any Seasonic products.

Specifically, I'd be looking for the S12-430. If they have that for a good bit less then Newegg, I'd probably be interested.

www.chiefvalue.com also carries it, but they are essentially the same company as Newegg... According to Newegg, they'll be back in on 3-15, and you can expect to see them at www.chiefvalue.com at about the same time. The prices do differ a bit between the two sometimes. I was able to get my Antec SL...

TY for the welcome! =) I've been checking component prices and tracking availability for a number of months, and started reading up on power supplies as I realized I'll need to upgrade my Antec True330 to a nForce4 compatible power supply, as a 20 to 24 pin converter isn't recommended. I'd still rather opt for the S12-430 For $107 shipped, as opposed to the S12-500 for $146. But I'm not buying quite yet. I'm putting together a new system and I'm still waiting for the 6800 GT PCI-E's to come down a little bit before I pull the trigger on everything. In any case, Newegg's sister com...

Seasonic S12-430 in stock @ Newegg

Fist post actually...I've been reading SPCR for quite a while, including doing research for PSU's. I think people have been looking for this one, as I know I have. It just showed up at Newegg today: Seasonic S12-430 @ Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-151-023&depa=...
