Great review, love the P180 vs SLK3000B, was hoping that someone would bring that up but didn't expect it in the review :D

Don't worry about the length, I wouldn't mind an additional 20 pages as long as it contains good stuff, like all SPCR reviews do ;)

I have finally got pretty much everything ready, checked out all the suppliers and so on... given a few parts a bit more thought... this should be the final setup (external components will prolly change though). Another review of the Venice 3800+ from neoseeker.com Not much of a heat/wattage comparison although it does mention that the vcore needed for the Venice is lower compared to the Winchester. Im guessing that the Venice is preferable... if it is in stock by the time I get the rest of my comp together...

Anyways, does this mean that the Venice is supperior to the Winchester in every way (don't care pricewise) ? Or is Xbit the more reliable source? Possibly, if only by a tiny margin. If you already own a Winny, unless you can sell it for a good bit of money (not likely now that Venice is available) ...

So MikeC, even though I know you said that using S12 430W instead of fanless doesn't help much That's not exactly what I siad -- I said you will need an exhaust fan on the back panel w/ or w/o a fanned PSU. Not the same thing. Personally I'd go with the S12-430, too. It's just as quiet in normal us...

Actually, I've been playing around with a couple of Raptor 74G drives and I have to say they are amazingly quiet at idle -- almost identical to the 3.5" champ, which remains the original Seagate Barracuda ...

Well, just do a bit of math: (18A + 16A) * 12V = 34A * 12V = 408W. I don't think the Phantom can sustain 18A on the 12V1 line, even if the spec says so. But if you'll buy it and get two 6800 GTs stable, please post results, I might buy a Phantom 500 when I'll upgrade from my Neopower480 (18A on 12V...

Just as Uberapan said, 430W should be more than enough. And for the fan, I think Yate Loon would seem like a good alternative (it's black). Although they might be hard to come by.

With two 6800GTs IMO it's very unlikely to get the system stable with the 350W Phantom. Not to mention the heat that the Phantom itself will generate at that load. The two 6800 GTs are going to dump 150W of heat in the case, and only have the Nexus to get that out. Better get a Seasonic 600W, to be...

Nice looking box, do you really want the extra noise and cost of the Raptor for the small speed improvement. I want a new Samsung hard drive, tell me what it is like when you get it.
