I'm not sure if I'm on the same lines as the rest of you, but I've got a high pitched squeel coming from my Dell Latitiude E6400 notebook. I've not fully researched the problem yet, but around a month ago, I purchased a SSD, and for a couple of weeks, rejoiced in laptop silence. As we all know, it c...

I use the hammer method - often destroy the pcb, and then drive an old screwdriver through the case. I don't get them any more, but several years ago I had a few drives with glass platters, and these were really satisfying - bash them with the hammer and the glass disitegrated - gave a lovely broken...

Did it this morning on an Asus P5e, using a USB drive. There is an update tool when you go into the BIOS settings (there are also other ways on this motherboard).

Yes, it can, and often does run without the fan. However when it does start up, it's very noticeable. I think it would be better if it ran at a constant lower speed, and just revved up a bit when necessary.

I just purchased a D630 - it's both good & bad! Bulid quality is pretty good, and the magnesium chassis is quite a work of art. However, being metal, it tends to act as one big heatsink, which means that the temperature of the case gets very high (measured a maximum of 110 degrees F), which to my mi...

Funnily enough my latest PC (with an ATX PSU of course) switches on as soon as I turn the power strip on - I don't really want it to, but then again, I am not too bothered, since if I turn the power strip on, the next thing that I always do is turn the PC on - so it saves me around 10 seconds every ...

Thanks for all the input - I suspect I will stick with the passive PSU in the short term and see how that works out, and in the meantime, do a fan swap on my Corsair, and possibly use this in the future.

It's definitely just air, not vibration; the PSU is in the bottom of my Lian-li case, but there is around 15mm under the PSU, and the case is drilled in a sort of honeycomb pattern underneath, so that the airflw should not be restricted. As a matter of interest, just before putting it all together, ...

No, it would be unrealistic to expect silence from 2 inches, but I would hope that it would be at a metre. As you can see, I have purchased the top 2 SPCR rated models (and quite a lot of others over the past 5(ish) years), so perhaps I have a low ambient noise level. But I don't think it's that low...

Suspend PSU

I think that the greatest source of noise in my system is my Corsair 520 PSU. It's pretty quiet outside the case, but when installed, it sounds far too loud for my liking. It is not a case of the PSU ramping up, but is (I assume) the vibrations getting transferred to the case and/or just more airflo...

I think the V1000 is fine for a quiet PC. An earlier poster suggested the case with the solid front door - I tried on...

I've been using a T-Balancer XL for a couple of months now, and whilst the software takes a bit of getting used to, I rate this as a brilliant product - highly customisable - can make your fans do almost anything you want. The only drawback is that it uses PWM, and I don't know if it's just my sensi...
