Re: Transplanting my SG05 system into a BitFenix Prodigy

I got a generic 14cm fan for the front from a local store for the front. I think it's supposedly (only) 800rpm@12V, but even undervolted to 7V it's still audible. I'm pretty sure the fan is crap (it was just what they had there), I'll get a replacement sometime soon. Don't know which model or even w...

Re: Transplanting my SG05 system into a BitFenix Prodigy

If anybody is interested how this turned out: after getting a slight electrical shock from touching the case, I ordered replacement components. (The HDMI connector to the projector also made little sparks when touching the case. Apparently that sometimes happens when the devices are plugged in diffe...

Re: Transplanting my SG05 system into a BitFenix Prodigy

It's a big mess. I like the case, and I'll probably reuse for a home server/NAS thing at some point (maybe transplanting the current mainboard+CPU back ). But it's not well suited to power hungry components and obviously cramming a full size ATX PSU is kind of perverse. I took some pictures. Gentle ...

Transplanting my SG05 system into a BitFenix Prodigy

I'm thinking of moving my current mini-ITX SG05 (shoe box) build into the still mini-ITX but much bigger BitFenix Prodigy. The SG05 is kind of crazy, since I've got a 100W CPU as well as a mid-end gaming graphics card in there. What's really crazy is that I killed the original PSU while trying to si...

Re: Audioengine A5+ Speakers and Wireless Audio Adapter

I'm thinking about replacing my aging and cheap Creative Labs 5.1 set, and while I know my way around IEMs and headphones, I'm utterly lost when it comes to amps and speakers. I don't know how much I ought to spend (always a figure dependent on your personal situation and expectations), much less wh...

Re: Evo ECOPC: A Silent Nettop

"uBuntu ... uBuntu ... uBuntu ..." etc. --> Ubuntu ;) Looks like a nice device, but really, I wouldn't recommend Atom to anyone, budget permitting. At least not as a primary desktop, maybe as a kitchen or media PC. Potentially a nice router (plus light storage) box, too, though you'd need to add a U...

I wonder if the new Scythe Rasetsu would fit... Its height is listed as 130mm w/ fan, ie. about 105mm fanless, which should (just) work. And the base is assymmetric, but whether it's enough to fit on a H55 board along with a dedicated GPU is anybody's guess, since I haven't found anyone who's tried ...

Wow, this thorough review comes at the perfect time for me, I was already contemplating either a SG05 or a SG07 build after being disappointed by the awkward interior design of the Lian Li cases. I was also thinking about using a "passive" heat sink for an i5 750. As Vetotat suggested, it's only sem...

SG05 or SG07 build (was: Lian Li Q08)

I think I'm going to try to build a quiet sometimes-gaming rig in a Lian Li Q08 case. Alternative cases include the Q07, the Sugo SG04/05 and the Morex 6610. I really would like to continue to use my current Seasonic PSU, though, and the Lian Li seems to be the smallest tower case where this is is r...

Upgrade Lian-Li system or new system+case?

I'm thinking of spending some money on my system sometime in December. Right now I can't decide whether I want to go for a new system or upgrade my existing rig, though I'm leaning towards the latter. The most expensive component will be the same in both cases, I'm looking to get an 80 GB Intel SSD....

Great article about two very interesting caes, but I'm left wondering if it's possible to get a quiet PC in there with a mid-range graphics card. The article says the graphics fan howls like a banshee, so no further tests are done -- but you can turn down the fan on the graphics card way down when n...

Another thing, anybody know how likely it is that I fried my CPU already? AFAIAA C2D has thermal throttle mechanism, so it won't have fried by heat. Yep! At least it appears to be okay so far. I must have triggered the emergency shut down of the CPU at least 20 times - I basically tried hard to kil...

I hope so, too. I'll see in a few minutes. I actually made a mistake installing the Katana. I did try very hard to follow instructions, but it was a fairly easy mistake to make, right on the first step. Too hard to explain. Another update: I'm an idiot. The Katana ISN'T EVEN TOUCHING the CPU. So yeah, you can screw up the install by a whole lot. Troubleshooting: System shuts down after a few seconds

Hey guys, didn't know where to put this since there is no forum dedicated to troubleshooting, but I direly need some help. Since I suspect the CPU or the mainboard could be the culprit, this forum is as good as any. So I got myself a new system to put into my PC60 Lian Li case. E6300, Gigabyte P965-...

If you aren't set on getting an SLI-capable board, get either a ASUS P5W (ie non-deluxe) or a Gigabyte 965P-S3 or 965P-DS3. Much cheaper though still somewhat pricey, they seem to be capable boards.

IMO 2 mucho power for such a small case. Because as we all know, computers in big cases are faster ;) Especially when they're black ! No love for the P150! Oh and agreed on the RAM modules, from what I read they should be in the same coloured slots. Though I'd never have spotted that on my own. :)

Go for that hardware RAID card you mention in the first post if you're serious about that RAID 5. But remember: RAID is not backup! Personally, I'd go for a C2D, I don't see why you don't think it's price is competitive. But anyway, sounds like a fairly mean workstation you got there. :)

The Antec Solo is the P150 without the Antec PSU.

I believe this board has better BIOS options for Vcore. The 975 chipset has been around a bit longer, so it may be more mature -- ie BIOS versions in mbs that use it are less buggy? If I recall correctly, the 965 was designed with the Core 2 Duo in mind and is based on the 65 nm process. Maybe it c...

Some thoughts to geth this thread started. ;) CPU: Note that the C2Ds are excellent overclockers . You could save some bucks by going with a 6400 or 6300 and running it at 6600 speeds. Dang. Thanks for the link. I'll have to replace my PSU, anyway, so the price is still way in favor of the X1900 GT, but 75 over 45W is signifcant. On the other hand, the difference at idle isn't, which is where noise matters most to me. -sigh-

X1900 GT vs 7900 GT

I was going to get a 7900 GT for my next setup, but then I read Anandtech's Summer Mid Range Roundup , which concludes: While this has been quite a lot of information to absorb, we will do our best to sort it all out. Not only is the X1900 GT a better performer in most cases than the stock 7900 GT, ...

I'm pretty sure that the S12 430 will (easily) be enough as long as you're not going SLI. The Solo should be big enough too, I doubt the X1900 is that long, but maybe somebody else could pitch in with a more certain answer. I'm planning a similar build, and I think the X1900 is a good idea. It's odd...
