It's stupid easy to silence computer these days. Very true. When I started on this forum Panaflo fans were state of the art (you had purchase more than you needed and cherry pick the quiet ones). PSU's were a nightmare, cases were horrible, and disk drives made all kinds of high pitched and seek no...

I would also suggest to at least attempt to overclock your existing CPU first. It's not like chips that come from the factory at a higher clock speed are going to be any cooler, provided you don't need to increase the voltage much if at all. At least that way it will be a free upgrade and will tide ...

Well I think there is supposed to be at least one CnQ option (enable/disable) in the BIOS someplace, but I remember reading somewhere that you need the motherboard to support it, and also you need to get a separate Windows driver to make it work.... Can someone else put a word on this issue here? I ...

seems the temp is like 38-40 after some hour's. is that ok or ? Is that under load or idle? Under load I wouldn't worry unless it went over 55-ish, but that seems reasonable for idle anyway. It's been a while since I've had to download CnQ drivers.... doesn't AMD have XP drivers on their site? I re...

Hello and welcome yukonam ! Sparkle PSU's, well...can be good and bad sometimes...you may want to look into a more reputable name...sure there are some good reviews, but price shouldn't be something to base a buy on unless its practically a steal for the technology. As far as I know, Sparkle = FSP/F...

Good review. Interesting reading about the Fander.... the article says it is made by Xinruilian, a company I hardly ever come across. I have two 80mm sleeve bearing fans made by Xinruilian (they actually say "Xinruilian" on them), one I bought used from a junk pile (presumably a case fan) and the ot...

If you want to find out if it is the video card PWM control causing extra fan noise or not, leave it mounted the way it is and plug it into a real voltage controller of some kind. If the noise goes away you have your answer, and should either try a different fan (that plays nice with PWM) or just sw...

I agree with Mr Evil.... if anything I find limits on signatures to be a good thing since they can become pretty obnoxious and take up a lot of space. It gets so bad at some places that the message text takes a back seat visually to the signature and while I like the look of a good signature as much...

I don't suppose you could turn off or disable that fan header in the BIOS? Then you could run the fan off a 4-pin connector. (I know, that's probably too easy...) I did a quick search but not much came up. A company once sold a gadget to double the RPM signal, but they're out of business now.... You...

Be aware that your Pentium 166 computer will need an expansion card in order to deal with a 320gig hard drive. The on board IDE controller most likely lacks LBA capability entirely, and certainly lacks double-pump LBA capability. If there's any USB at all, it will be the entirely too slow USB 1 sta...

Advice for backing up multi-OS home network?
I've got a bit of a dilemma here. I have ready to go a new 320GB hard drive and a USB external enclosure for it, which I bought because I want to backup the files off one of the computers at home. Then I decided it would probably be a good idea to make it a backup repository for all the computers we...

You don't have any other options available? I'd definitely look into DSL, to add the lower speed services (such as 768/128) onto an existing phone plan is usually only $15-25/month. I would also look into this. Call your land line phone provider and ask about bundle options for DSL service. Either ...

You should probably go with the Ninja unless appearance or some specific plan of yours is a factor. It is a design several years old now, and doesn't offer as many cool...
