Re: Seagate Archive 8TB HD quiet?

I have to concur. I purchased this drive in December, Archive HDD SATA 6Gb/s 5TB ST5000AS0011 and it seemed fine on the bench during assembly, but now that it is being used, it has developed a very pronounced vibration buzz that is even louder than seek noises--it literally vibrates in my hand now. ...

Re: 2016 Refresh (Gaming, General)

Well, the MSI card is out of stock everywhere, so how about this instead?

MSI Radeon RX 480 8GB GAMING X

Re: 2016 Refresh (Gaming, General)

Steve,

Thanks for the comments. I thought of the -AR as I did not need the DVI/VGA ports of the -A recommended in the 4K Gaming article; I will look at the Pro Gaming. For memory, I've always stuck with Crucial and Kingston but I'll look at that Corsair kit as well.

Well, the 6800 in the Gigabyte is not the same as the 6800GS in the eVGA card Mike used -- it's slower. The Zalman is probably not compatible with this card either, and may require an add-on fan, eliminating any advantage over the Arctic Cooling product. Be seeing you... ---> TBC (Torrid -- Bane of ...

You'll want to look into de-coupling the ROOM as much as possible from the rest of the structure. This is often done by building a "room-within-a-room" using parallel walls with air-space between, or staggered stud construction. For the floor, you'll be building a raised floor. You would then insula...
