The often stated "a hot heatsink is a working heatsink" is somewhat flawed. The point of a heatsink is to lower the equilibrium temperature where as much heat as is produced by the heatsource (here GPU) is dissipated to the surroundings. The worse the heatsink, the warmer it has to get before it can...

Experiences with a Gigabyte 6600GT Silentpipe
A couple of weeks ago I started to build a new system and of course I wanted as quiet operation as possible. Being an all-around computer user writing, browsing, editing homepages and playing games from time to time I wanted decent performance as well. I've described what parts I decided to buy and ...

With the PCI-E version of the Gigabyte 6600GT Silentpipe it depends on what bios version you are using if there is temperature monitoring in the Nvidia control panel or not. As I understand it there is a temp. sensor on all the Nvidia 6600GT cards but not all manufacturers choose to make the tempera...

Since I bought my new A64/Asus A8N SLi Premium system and started to look at temperatures on different components I've gotten more and more confused about what it is I am actually looking at. Not that NB cooling seems to be a problem with the heatpipe solution on the A8N SLI premium. But while brows...

As said above all the passive solution requires good airflow around the heatsink. Atomidude: Looking at the post with your setup it seems like your VGA temperatures are from Speedfan. Those are way off in my experience, if you have the possibility have a look at the temperatures reported in the driv...

Ackelind: I ran the case open for a few hours yesterday browsing, installing etc. Nothing too heavy and the power draw was rougly around 90-95W. Putting my hand on the PSU it feels warm but far from hot. In a closed case there is a slight flow of air coming out from the back of the PSU that is warm....

Work has been keeping me very busy so I haven't had much spare time but here is my progress so far. The assembled system. http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/5466/secsideview0fj.th.jpg Overall I am pleased with the case, it is very easy to work. As I said earlier the front fan grill is left intact an...

I know there are a few lurkers from Sweden here that probably will recieve the A8N SLi Premium next week since it is available here as well now. I expect to get mine in the beginning of next week... I can't answer the question about the heatsink, but the only difference between Deluxe and Premium as...

Hi shike, We both seem to be in the process of buying new machines and looking at your location I had to compare notes  . I like most of your choices and I think you will be pleased with that setup. Only a few comments, Optical Drive: Plextor is probably still as good as most people say, I've ...
