http://hexus.net/media/uploaded/2017/3/f41c4207-c855-47e0-bcef-639b0ccb4f55.PNG I am curious about those water radiators + blocks. No water pumps?. If so, just one big fan for the case could be silent. But, no water pumps?. Is it possible?. http://core0.staticworld.net/images/article/2017/03/corsai...

Yes. I tell you, this is it. BIOS fan control. No need for anything else.

Re: Best cooler to run a semi-passive i7 6700K on a FT05?
I finally got a Ninja 4 (I come from a core2duo with an original ninja). The price/performance ratio of those is very good. With the asus mobo I can keep the 2 big case fans and the CPU fan at around 400rpms at rest, and with normal use they never go up. This case keeps everything cool and nice. Wit...

Re: Skylake+thunderbolt+good bios fan control=?
Well, I finally purchased a FT05 with an Asus z170 deluxe, with 2 samsung 951 M2 drives. This thing (coming from an ancient core2duo) is FAST. I got a ninja 4, and with this amazing mobo I keep the two case fans and the CPU fan at around 350-400rpms. During normal use is silent. If I use prime95 I c...

Re: Best cooler to run a semi-passive i7 6700K on a FT05?
Interesting pics!. It is amazing how big the ninja looks inside an itx case! I do not like the concept of a totally fanless CPU cooler. I prefer one with a fan that can be run very slow or stopped, but that can also be run fast if needed.

Re: Skylake+thunderbolt+good bios fan control=?
Thanks, Steve. I did not know about the possible Asus thunderbolt card. I will go for an Asus motherboard and worry about that later, when it is useful. I've used in the past one of those fan controllers, and you form a mess of cables with all the thermistores glued all over the place. Not pretty, a...

Re: Best cooler to run a semi-passive i7 6700K on a FT05?
Thanks, Abula. Yes, I plan on using an Asus mobo. That monster of a cooler should do it, if it is possible at all. The main problem is that the FT05 has a CPU cooler size limit of 162mm, and the Thermalright HR-22 is 159mm tall. Too close. I may try it, though!

Best cooler to run a semi-passive i7 6700K on a FT05?
In the review of the FT05 the scythe kotetsu is used, and Lawrence gives some alternatives (http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1445-page2.html). To run it semi-passive (with the fan off most of the time), which one would be recommended?. What about the ninja 4?. The FT05 is not huge, and the coole...

Skylake+thunderbolt+good bios fan control=?
I am goin to finally upgrade my ancient core2duo to skylake, and will be using the silverstone FT05 case. The only way to make that build silent will be with good bios fan control (not using windows). And on top of that I would like to have thunderbolt 3, because I use my computers a long time and i...

The Asus Z170-Premium seems to have it all: FanXpert3, thunderbolt3....You name it. Will be expensive, for sure, but that thing is TEMPTING!!: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z170-PREMIUM/

Re: Skylake NUC or Intel NUC D54250WYK2 or? ...for HTPC
All NUCs have laptop cooler+fans, and when loaded are noisy. If you want silent, get and Akasa fanless case and build a fanless NUC or get a system like:

Re: Skylake thoughts
I was thinking along the lines of plugging a NUC in to a monitor. Thunderbolt2 is not USB3.1, it just uses a similar cable. It is the equivalent of a 4 lane PCIe 3.0 link. I'm guessing the next generation will double that bandwidth. By the time that happens (probably 3-4 years), I'm sure we will ha...

Re: Skylake thoughts
There is now a thunderbolt mobo, but unfortunately is gigabyte:
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/produc ... id=5479#ov
However, with no GT4e iGPU CPUs available, the usefulness of the HDMI 2.0 to 4K monitors seems dubious. Likely lacks fan controls. You cannot have it all!!

Re: Skylake thoughts
This is interesting. I do not game, but I would like to get at least a 4k (or a 5k if they are affordable) monitor for mi next putter. We'll see if the GT4e is up to the task or I'll need a discrete GPU. But I do not like NUCs or Brixes. Small, but they are a closed package. I'll wait and see the be...

Re: Skylake thoughts
What I dont get is why intel did put only the GT2 iGPU on these K processors and not the GT4e. So far, seems only the new portable xeons will have it. It is a shame, because many people could just use the iGPU instead of being forced to purchase a separate GPU card, adding 100-200W to the overall po...

Re: Skylake thoughts
Power consumption is very good, but looks like we may have to wait and see what the better integrated graphics (GT4e) can do. The rest is tempting: HDMI 2.0, DP1.3, USB3.1, M2....This may be the generation to upgrame my ancient core2duo  Seems that means waiting for Skylake-H for notebooks, whi...

Re: New NAS on the block
This one looks tempting, even though its near 700 euro. Its has no power supply inside the box (uses a power brick) and therefore has no little fan inside. The multimedia and download software is not like synology's, but the worst thing is that I was planning on installing two of the new WD 6TB REDs...

Re: Best noise-canceling headphones?
The best and cheapest noise-cancelling headphones are the closed ones. They dont cancel external sound, but the closed back isolates from it.
