Re: 7850 vs. 7870
Has anybody experience with the Sapphire RADEON HD 7870 GHz Edition (2 GB)? I'm thinking of buying it, but not for gaming but for is GPU processing power. Most of the time it will be used only for non game "normal" use (browsing, office work, a video or two). So I want to know if it's rather quiet w...

Case: use the existing case fan OS Drive: I like the m4 128GB. My C300 128GB has been great. Time to bend your mind some more. Fresh out of the box, when you format your SSD, be sure to over-provision it. Just 10-20% and you may get a big IOPS and endurance bump. To over-provision, just format the ...

Re: Digital Audio Workstation Build: pls. help me pick a cas
Most of Z68 motherboards have HDMI and DVI, and both can be used in an independent dual display configuration. My monitors are VGA/DVI, so I might end up needing the ASUS nVidia GeForce GT210 after all. Man, this rig building stuff can sure get complicated. I just installed a 1600*1200 DVI monitor ...

Re: Digital Audio Workstation Build: pls. help me pick a cas
Hi
With a budget of 2K I would think about using 2 SSD's. If you're used audio tracks fit in a SSD (128 or 256 GB) this would be probably very fast.
So 1 SSD for OS and programs and 1 SSD for the audio tracks that are active (read, in use in that job/session/jig/...).

Re: Digital Audio Workstation Build: pls. help me pick a cas
Among the relatively recent 7200 HDDs we reviewed, the Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.C 1TB stands atop w/ 13 dBA idle and 17 dBA seek. The WD Blues and Blacks run more like 15-16 dBA idle and 20~23 seek. The 7K1000.C is a 2 platter drive; the newer Deskstar 7K1000.D is a 1TB single -platter drive, which ...

Is it possible to suspend two drives and then mount another drive in a HD bay? Below the lowest supension there room for a 2.5" drive, for example a second SSD. On top it's possible to add a 2.5" drive upside down, not a problem for a SSD. It should be possible to add a 3.5" drive below, but not wi...

Re: Digital Audio Workstation Build: pls. help me pick a cas
A Z68 chipset board is what you want. Supports the built-in GPU & adds full overclocking support for CPU, memory and integrated graphics. I've never used a mobo with a built-in GPU/integrated graphics. Will it be able to handle my two 22" monitors? Most of Z68 motherboards have HDMI and DVI, and bo...

Re: Mugen 3
Hi
I can install the fan of my mugen 3 in either push (not much room left) or pull configuration.
I've installed in on a i5 2500k without OC and I'm mostly thinking about low CPU usage.
It's in a solo II case with the default case fan.
What will be the best from a silence point of view?

I replaced the stock cpu fan with a scythe samurai ZZ. It's a lot less noise now. (Better at full load than before at 15% load.) You'll have to check whether there's place for the cooler, but I did it easily without removing the MB from the case. (but on a table) The most difficult (tricky) is remov...

http://www.silentpcreview.com/samsung-f4-seagate-xt-2tb Thanks for the link. This drive seems excellent, definitely considering it. But can you tell me is it even quieter than the 1,5 Tb F2 Ecogreen HD154UI drive? Here in Finland the 1,5 F2 HD154UI cost 74.90 € and the 2 Gb HD204UI 93,90€. I would ...

Re: Suggestion for Silent PSU
They're good quality, just be sure to get one of the new E8 series as they're tuned for extreme silence rather than just being quiet like the old E7. Many wattages and fixed/modular cabling models to consider, I'd go for the 400w one with fixed cables as it's plenty power and still relatively cheap...

Re: Best Budget Silent CPU Cooler?
Why? Because it isn't any better at all, with reference to the CM 212+. The ZZ is a quiet, relatively small, but generally speaking mediocre cooler, which usually costs a little more than the CM: if there's room for this latter, the ZZ cannot compare to it, even with its not exceptional stock fan, ...

Re: idle power: i760/P55/low end GPU versus p645 or 1090T +
a quick question:
While configuring a 1090T + 880G MB PC (2disks + 4GB) at a local shops web configurator I got a conflict with a 380W power supply. I thought that a 380W supply wouldn't have any trouble with the config? (In practice I will build it in my P150 + 430W power supply)

idle power: i760/P55/low end GPU versus p645 or 1090T + 880G
Hi Not found after quite a long search. Does anybody knows what the difference in idle powerusage is between a : intel i760 with p55 MB (with sata 6 and usb3) and low end GPU versus a AMD 965 or 1090T with a 880G MB and the igp on the board I've seen some comparisons with both having a separate GPU,...

I notice an AMD system was used for this review. I recently built an AMD system with a SandForce drive and found all sorts of surprises with the AMD south bridge (I am using a SB850). A lot of people are saying that AMD's Cool'n'Quiet and C1E has a huge impact on speeds. I haven't tried disabling t...

Hi What's the practical noise reduction? Is it noticable? Has anybody already tried it inside a computer? I looked up the maximum temperature and this is 100°C (or 212 F), so it seems safe to use inside a computer. I've also check the electrical resistance on a very old (small) piece and it doesn't ...
