I mean I know of plenty of worse processes (eg extracting tar sands) but I was under the impression paper production isn't that environmentally-friendly, esp. in places like China etc. I can only speak to US production. First: Trees grow back and all US tree harvesting is either from managed land t...

If you want to get upset about people being wasteful of resources, paper usage should be VERY low on your list. It's about the most renewable resource there is and is generally produced with little enviromental impact. I'd get upset about plastic being used in place of paper (being non-biodegradable...

The Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe/Premium could work. I think the newer ones have a passive heatpipe for the MB chip. It's a 939-socket board, SLI, dual gigabit network, and SATA support. I have the older version of the Deluxe and had to replace the MB fan with a NB47J heatsink (before the heatpipe version wa...

No, I don't have a motherboard, video card, case, or PSU (that I'm willing to use).

That's the stuff I was looking for recommendations of price/performance/sound level to go with the items I do have.

Suggestions for best Cost:Fold setup?

Just upgraded my computer and realized I have a fair amount of the parts to build another machine which would probably just be used for FAH. I'm looking for suggestions on what would be the cheapest setup for best folding results. What I have: AMD A64 3200+ (939 socket Winchester) 1 GB (2x512mb) DDR...

Just upgraded my computer (A64 3200+ to a A64 X2 3800+ dual core and went from 1gb to 2gb of faster memory) and have the FAH service running on both cores. (One-Click install worked great.) We'll have to see what this does to my folding progress. Meanwhile, the machine isn't any louder. CPU has gone...

I'd suggest reading the review on the S12-500/600. http://www.silentpcreview.com/article247-page1.html However, the short story is that the S12-500 & 600 use the same controller and have the same noise signature. The S12-330, 380 and 430 use a different, and quieter, fan controller. If you really ca...

I'm using an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe (though the standard should be the same) with a XP-120, NB-47J replacing the stock fan, and all 4 DIMM slots populated.

(BTW, it doesn't look like the XP-120 will miss the first DIMM, but it does. Barely.)

However, I'm a fan (HAH! Made a funny...OK, maybe not...) of temperature reporting combined with fan speed control.

If putting on an XP-90 is like the XP-120, you want to do this BEFORE putting in the case. The clips take some force to attach doing it inside the case could make it more difficult than it needs to be.

I had no problem getting to the screw holes, and an XP-120 is much larger than a XP-90.

If it helps you feel better, I'm using a Nexus on a XP-120 without any problems. (AMD64 3200+ Winchester, not a P4, though.) I use a T-Balancer to control my fan speed, and being fairly conservative, it keeps the Nexus running between 50%-66%....which means I can never hear it inside an AcoustiPacke...
