Hmmm...just put the fans on 5v and the hard drive temp appears to be staying put. I must admit that it doesn't even feel warm if i touch the top of it whilst its spinning I want lower temps because i want to be able to run it at 5V when not gaming/using CAD etc I'm not that comfortable with a 50C pr...

All the pci covers are removed IIRC, got my sound card in one, radeon in another, graphics cooler in another one. I came on here for the first time in a few months to see if anyone had done this and here it is! Looks great I just got a 3500+ venice which is running at nearly 4000+ speeds and slightly undervolted. My fanless XP-120 (120mm case fan behind it with right angled duct) doesn't seem to work too well w...

Would the first thing not be to check its seated properly in the slots?

Just take them out then put them back in again. Could be that you never got them in properly when you changed case

Is there any way to ensure that I get a drive with a Nidec motor when ordering? Or is that that just good luck / bad luck? Its just luck unless the people you're buying from can be persuaded to check the drive for you before shipping. Have to say my samsung is a JVC and its unaudiable over my 2 nex...

You'll find that once you've sorted the cpu fan you'll then be 90% sure the noise is coming from the case fans/hard drive or whatever it is. I'm running the xp120 fanless but thats with a 2.26 P4 which runs relitavly cool (I think). Idles at about 32 with fans at 5V. As for the cpu, take a look at t...

You said you don't want passive, do have a look at the schooner, cools my 9800 Pro just as well as my arctic cooler and lets me overclock better

I made a little 5V/12V switch by following a guide here on SPCR. Means i can start the fan at 12V and turn it down the 5V easily. Also means i can turn it up to 12V when i start something graphics/cpu intensive

A Graphics card is totally capable of 105C. They are safe upto roughly 120C

I'd have a look at the thermaltake schooner. I've got one and it cools almost as well as my arctic cooler and gives me a better overclock too!

Lower power dells are very quiet because they use 1 thermally controlled case fan and 1 quiet PSU fan

Dells tend to throw up an error message on boot if you replace the standard case fans but its just a case of pressing F1 or something on each boot to pass the error

You dont need a review from SPCR, its silent so that doesn't matter.

This seems ok: http://www.insanetek.com/index.php?page ... schooner_1
