I am a bit surprised they where able to measure those levels with a Norsonic 121, isn't that below the capacity of that device?

Re: 7870 or 7850, can the former be cooled quietly?
Wait a week or two for the various 7850/7870 products to hit the market and get reviewed. Hardly any are using the reference design. Might be a couple that are quiet enough for your needs without having to get an aftermarket cooler. Thanks for the tip, I plan too wait some weeks, both for that reas...

Re: 7870 or 7850, can the former be cooled quietly?
So the S1-plus with 1 or 2 120mm would give the same cooling ability as lets say a Accelero Xtreme PLUS II?

Re: 7870 or 7850, can the former be cooled quietly?
4770 it was of course, thanks boost To clarify, It doesn't have to use only one fan really, my wording was a bit cumbersome. To rephrase, can i aircool the the 7870 quietly (fan speed of about 4-500 rpm for 120mm i guess), lets say money and size is no object, but i would rather not have a large mod...

7870 or 7850, can the former be cooled quietly?
I am looking for a new Graphics Card, today I have a 4750 with a Artic Silence cooler and a 120mm-fan, the fans runs at 400-500 rpm. This is much more than needed to cool the card it turns out. Would a similar solution be enough for a 7870? Or do you need to go down to 7850 to run such a setup?(or e...

Re: How powerful graphics card can i cool quietly?
Tanasssi, what cooler do you suggest putting 120mm-fans on, the stock-cooler? I think i might go for an accelero xtreme plus 2, i get the impression from the thread that a 6950 might be possible to cool at around 700 rpm. It is pwm-cooled, what controls the fans? The bios on the GPU? Can the GPU-tem...

How powerful graphics card can i cool quietly?
I will try to be so precise as possible. How powerful of a graphics card can i cool quietly, price is not so important, I can use 4 slots for the card and the cooling. I tried a MSI 6950 Twin Frozr, its ok at idle, but to noisy at load. I want something that can be cooled at around 700 rpm by 2 120m...

Re: Allround/gaming rig for my brother, how small can i go?
I have decided to try the SG07-build. With the AXP-140 cooler from thermalright. And probably a i5 2500s cpu. I have a couple of questions though: 1. The MSI Frozr 6879 is not available in norway, how about the 6950 frozr, is that a quite graphics card too, or should i goo for a weaker card, or a 3r...

Re: Allround/gmaing rig for my brother, how small can i go?
Thanks again for the advice. I have tried a ninja mini in a HTPC-case i have, and that worked out suprisingly well with a mid-range i5, might that be an otion, or is the fan-layout in the case not very good for this? (fan beeing on top and all). The thermalright you mentiones seems like a very good ...

Re: Allround/gmaing rig for my brother, how small can i go?
Thank you for very to the point and useful tips! The MSI GPU is that quiet without further modding, or do i need to control the fans in some way (besides the way the card doses it itself), and would that kind of card fit the SG07? (being twin slot)

Allround/gaming rig for my brother, how small can i go?
I am building a computer for my brother as Christmas present. He is a student, so I would preferably make it pretty small. I need it to have a decently performing i5-CPU, 8 GB ram or maybe a bit more, and a pretty good (but not stellar) GPU (Thing someting around the 200-250dollar range). My main fo...

Re: More HDD Consolidations
That sucks. But I guess it's expected as the HDD market begins to dwindle. Hopefully if Seagate does buy them, they use them to make a better line of drives. Maybe continue the series for a while at least. Is the HDD-market dwindeling though? i thought need for storage (perhaps somewhat surprisingl...

I'm too lazy right now to provide any real critisism of your build and stuff... but I will ask you this... why do you feel you need to prepare sound levels for prime 95 tests? Few games are completely multi threaded, and you didn't say anything about serious encoding or video editing etc. So my que...

It's roughly 20W less power under load according to this test: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3634&p=17 The thing that clouds the results are the different motherboards/chipsets for the tests. Since they used fairly high-end motherboards throughout their tests, I don't think th...

I don't see why you should be concerned about a Ninja on a i5 not being enough. Also, CPU fan speed will ramp up if needed. You probably don't even need a fan on the GPU, it's designed to be passively cooled. I guess my concern comes from my i7-920, when the weather is warm, and i rune prime on all...

Silent HTPC and gaming rig
I am building a HTPC rig, wich will also be used for gaming, I have a pretty large media library (stored on fileserver), so i think some beef will be nice. (for searching files, general snappiness and so on). I have the following setup planned: Case: Antec Fusion Remote Max - Not very nice looking, ...

Thanks a lot for the list, that is very helpful. I am a bit confused about the heights of some coolers though, the cooler in SPRs review of the antec fusion remote max seems to be a Scythe Orochi, wich according to Sythe is 155mm high, but in the review, the pics seem to indiate that it clears the a...

As the article briefly mention, I am a bit sceptical to the usefullness of this CPU compared to the i750 for the average user. The turbo-mode makes the i750 pretty snappy in workloads that are not very multithreaded, so you get the best of both words in a way. If you need the IGP the i661 looks a bi...

Which Tower Cooler will fit the Antec Fusion Remote Max?
Well, the question is more or less given in the topic, wich tower cooler will fit this case? The Prolima Megahalems seems to be just a bit to big (they touch the top of the case, but can be fitted). Most Tower Coolers seem to have similar height as the Megahalems in their specs, but seom might have ...

AtW, if I were you, I'd worry a lot less about being able to cool the i5 with a minja and more about fitting the S1 inside the Antec Fusion/2480 cases. The S1 tends to be "taller" than the vid card, and there is only about 1cm from the top of the PCI bracket to the case 'ceiling'. I had to bend the...

I am looking at building a rig for similar purposes. However, I was going to build it using a board like the Asus M4N78 Pro coupled with a nVidia GPU, because then unless I'm playing a game the Hybrid Power feature of the motherboard will switch of the discrete GPU and use the integrated GPU, makin...

HTPC for HD-movies and some gaming, how hot components?
I am in the progress of building a HTPC, it will be used for HD-material (it should be able to run everything in software, du to better encoders there). I also will be doing some gaming. It must be very quiet (lets set a target that noe fans should be more than 600-650 rpm, and no more than 3-4 fans...

Personally, I have not seen a difference between 24-25 fps min scores and 30 fps min scores. Hardocp is a bit overally cautious in its recommendations normally. Even 24 fps is fluid. That's what you get at the cinema, although they show every frame at least twice to prevent the flickering sensation...
