Yes, the fan is always on but inaudible in operation below 300W.

Re: ANTEC TP NEW 750W, Corsair 750TX, 750HX, 750AX coil whin

TP750 is the quietest PSU I've ever had, compared to:

Antec Earthwatts EA430
Antec Earthwatts EA500D
Seasonic S12-330
Corsair VX450

The Seasonic and Corsair both had a little coil whine (not much), the Earthwatts had fans that were loud enough to mask any.

Re: server case for Home PC

Remember that server cases are not usually ideal for moving air quietly. The only reason they keep cool is they usually use a lot of high-speed fans. There are many cases that will keep you equipment cool. The Lian-Li recommended by the previous poster is ok, though I don't like the sideways oriente...

Re: Nexus value Loud noise when windows boots

Coil whine, most likely. Not much you can do, unfortunately. Some devices seem to be more prone to this than others. Usually, it's on a motherboard or something, but since most are completely solid-state now, you see it less. Most PSU have larger coils which don't exhibit this as much. Some people h...

Re: I have just discovered how horrible Fox News really is

The opposition that Barrack Obama has been facing, both in quality and quantity, is unprecedented. I disagree, only in the sense that it isn't any worse, just taken a different form. When Clinton was in office, 24-news channels were just coming into their own, but the editorial shows, had little pr...

Most tiles that are available now are thin, lightweight types that go easily over various types of underlayment, including previous vinyl installs. They are not suitable for this, unless using several layers. The kind that I found long ago and work the best weigh 1-2 lbs a piece and need to cover th...

Re: Asus EAH6850: does yours meet up to the review?

You have to edit the BIOS with RBE to get it to go below 20%. Mine stays there @ 1580rpm. I've only seen it go up to ~1800rpm when I maxed out Crysis Warhead. Couldn't get it to do it again... One of these days I'll do the RBE mod, but I'm just not that itching to do it right now...I'm still adjusti...

A lot of car audiophiles use Optima Spiral Cell batteries when doing dB competitions. The deliver a lot of power, can be deep cycled and keep the voltage up as the battery drains. Most batteries will drop the voltage as the charge is used up, which most electronics don't like so much...

Re: Computer hooked to TV via HDMI looks bad

Color space is also an issue depending on OS and drivers used. WindowsXP has to be tricked into sending the IRE standard black and white levels via HDMI. Otherwise, the standard 0-255 (PC levels) will be compressed into the 16-235 levels which will make the black look blacker and dim and the white l...

Re: Does the vibration from the PSU fan transfer to the case

Maybe on a cheapie, lightweight aluminum case.

On the P183 you should be fine. If not, you can cut little hunks of foam to use as gasket material between the case and PSU at the screwpoints. You could also buy a silicone PSU gasket, but it's a waste of money, IMO.

You need to look up some of Bluefront's old post. He was a master of filtered positive-pressure case-mods. He had a couple cats from what I remember and everything had to be filtered.

Don't know why he stopped posting, but hopefully his legacy isn't lost here.

The TruePower New 750 is very quiet. Quieter than my VX450 and S12-330 and way quieter than my EA-430 and EA-550.

I can't comment on how quiet the Corsair is, but with regards to the power, what hardware would you be running that might require more than the TPN-750 can quietly provide?

Scythe Mugen 2 is a very good cooler. Not that expensive.

Megahalems was a decent cooler when it came out.

Noctua's 14cm towers are very good as well.

It is big, but it's tall enough to avoid any issues with most motherboards. RAM clearance can be an issue if your RAM has tall heatsinks. The bigger issue is usually depth of the case as the cooler is so tall. There are cheaper options out there, as well, but I love my Mugen2. The latest revision ha...

I had a similar experience a few years ago with a Geforce 6600GT AGP and a Zalman VF700 (posted here somewhere). I didn't install the spacers properly and busted off a few transistors in the process. I've had good luck in the last few years with G.Skill RAM (most recently the Ripjaw DDR3-1600). They usually have low voltage modules at a low cost. Never had any stability issues with them.

Re: Acrylic Cases?

The thing with a LanBoy Air is that it's completely positive-pressure oriented with no filters. It comes with 5 fans and needs them all to cool standard PC components. It's not built to be quiet, either. The fans are pretty loud (even at lowest speed) and the blue LEDs on mine are insanely bright. I...

Re: Acrylic Cases?

Acrylic cases are a terrible idea for a few reasons: 1) Light weight and stiff. This means they vibrate horribly when components are put inside. 2) Electrically non-conductive. This sounds like a good thing on the outset, but remember that your motherboard is grounded to both the PSU and the chassis...

I love the all black paint job you've done. Simply beautiful. I love my 300 as well, but it took a little bit of work to make it quiet. Only going to chime in to say that posting manufacturer's specs are worthless and that it's irrelevant what the minimum and maximum fan speeds (and noise) are for those coolers, unless you know exactly how effective the cooler will be. Say "cooler A" has a fan that spins from 800-3000rpm and "cooler...

Re: EarthWatt 380W vs 500W efficiency for low consumption NA

No, it's just the fact that the EA500's fan spins faster at it's minimum than the one inside EA380/EA430. I created a separate chamber inside my Antec 300 to avoid heat contamination, so that definitely wasn't an issue. The LanBoy Air it's currently occupying has more than enough airflow to provide ...

Re: EarthWatt 380W vs 500W efficiency for low consumption NA

It's plenty efficient, but also noisier. My EA430 started causing issues and I had to RMA it. Antec replaced it with a brand new Delta-built (instead of the original Seasonic built) EA500. The fan is quite a bit louder at idle. You could easily do a fan swap, considering it's second-hand, but is it ...

It's likely coil buzz on one of the mobo components. It's common enough, especially when components are push with extra voltage. There have been various attempts at solving this problem, including covering the component with hot glue.

I'm skeptical if they have ever actually worked.

Other than being ugly and more expensive, you may consider the DF-85. It has the same lower 9 bays as the 1200, but includes the Fleet-Swap feature that allows for easy hotswapping of HDDs in the area. You could still use the extra 3.25" bay as normal and use the 5.25" for HDD storage at your discre...

Re: Finally a 100% fanless and total noiseless HTPC!

I believe you have to get an mCubed HFX case to get it (or make it work for that matter).

But if you are in Europe, you may want to look for mCubed BorgFX. it looks like a similar CPU block/heatpipe combo that's available separately. Probably won't work with another case though.
