Re: Fractal intros Define R6

I'd be curious to know how silent the new harddrive mounting solution is in practice. I have a total of 6 5400 rpm drives in my Antec P280 and the hum from the drives is the only noise I hear from my case. It would be nice if this case could take care of that. For context, I resold the Define R5 cas...

Re: Upgrade from an Antec P180 to a P183 for cable routing?

I guess I'll just keep the P180 then and make my own holes if I feel like taking the time to do so. Even if I bought the P183 for the holes, I'd still have to disassemble and reassemble it anyway. Thanks for your comments. I had no idea many "quality" chassis used thinner metal now. Now I have even ...

I suppose that might be better if I can get my hands on the required tools if those holes are the only differences of note.

Upgrade from an Antec P180 to a P183 for cable routing?

I've been using my trusty Antec P180 since 2005. Cable managment is hard though, partly because I use 8 harddrives (2 of them SSDs). Recently I've seen stores selling out the remaining stock of the P183 (not the V3 version) cheap. I was wondering if you guys think it would be worth buying one just f...

Got one of these 5400rpm F2's and it sounds fairly quiet so far. Going to compare them to the F1's later but first impression is that it is at least as quiet if not more. As for Pixmania, never had any problems with them and I have ordered significant items like Pioneer plasma TV's, i7 CPU's etc. B...

Why do they not sell a 3 platter 1.5 TB one in the F3 series? 1 TB feels small for a newly released drive now days. :(

Yep 5400rpm. I receive two of them HD154UI (1,500,301,910,016 bytes) Cold and silent. It used as data holder, max. performance not needed. Before using hdisks in production, check the whole hdisk for bad blocks. I use # badblocks -swv /dev/<fresh new disk without data yet> [...] I will raise a RMA ...

Yeah, I noticed that. The price is a bit higher as well. I'll wait until they have them in stock at least. If some of the other stores got them too it would be even nicer though as we might see some competitive pricing then hopefully. :)

There actually is a program that can do exactly what you want, stop and start your disc drive from spinning on command. It was intended for video game backing up (not going to get into it now long explanation of why it is needed and crap) but it's called wxStop and it is on gael360.free.fr check it...

How do I stop my DVD-drive from spinning on command?

I consider my computer silent enough for my needs. However, whenever I have a disc in the DVD-drive and I do something where I get to select a path windows will spin up the dvd to check what it contains. This often results in that the drive keeps the disc spinning for quite some time just in case I ...

Samsung EcoGreen F2 1.5 TB - Have anyone tried it?

I just noticed that PixMania (seems like a crap store unfortunately) has started selling this drive now for a reasonable price in Sweden (shipped from France). Has anyone tried them? I'm looking for a drive to replace my 200GB Samsung drive (SP2004C). Since I'm very happy with my two 500GB (HD510LJ)...

How long warrenty does Antec have on their cases? I bought mine in august 2005. They sent me a replacement for the warped door it had but I just noticed that this door just started doing the same thing. This is the version without magnet and no metal on the inside. Other than that the case works nice.

The card should be able to take about 90-100 degrees (it's set to throttle default at 120 C so I guess it should be ok). Though in with the fan on maximum the cooling is much more effective as I can't see it rising over 70 C ever.

Quiet is subjective, it's quieter than the reference cooler. At 25% it's very silent and idles at 64-66 C. At 50-53% it idles at about 60-62 C. Though when gaming I will have to put the fan at around 100% or I will get artifacts in some games because of the heat ( I do sometimes anyway :(). As I don...

Leadtek 6800 retail-cooling the most audible in my system?

I wonder what the noise in my P180 comes from. My setup: Antec P180 with all fans on LOW ABIT NF7-S v2.0 with zalman passive cooling on the northbridge AMD 2500+ @200x10 with the standard heatsink (or maybe spire, I don't know) with an 80 mm papst spinning around 1500-1600 rpm (I think it's this fan...

I like the Tagan PSUs. The new 2force-series has 2x80mm straight through wich should be perfect for the P180. I have one in mine. I has long cables too and I can't hear it in my system but I have yet to silence my Leadtek 6800LE.

Why hasn't Tagan's PSUs been reviewed here?

The Antec Phantom 500W is 7.2 inches and that's about as tight as I think you can fit in there. I wouldn't count on using that PSU in the P180.
